Homeschool Days

Wednesdays, August 27, September 3

9am-4pm

Nothing is a constant in history like food. During the events on these two days, explore in a fun way how food and nutrition have been a constant in history, from too little food to too much. Discover the impact that changes in technology had on how people produced, prepared, and preserved food that they ate. Learn how technology changed the tasks people did. How many calories do you burn off playing checkers vs. printing with a foot-powered press? How much horsepower does your body generate, compared to a tractor or car? How long does it take to turn cream into butter, or to cook in an open hearth vs. a microwave?

Offered twice: Wednesday, August 27 and Wednesday, September 3, 2014

(Same programming each day)

Preregistration required. Register at www.LHF.org/Homeschool

Applefest

Saturday, September 13

11am-4pm

The smell of apple fills the air in the town of Walnut Hill. Tour the Farm sites in the morning, and spend the afternoon in our 1875 town celebrating the coming of fall fruit! Try your hand at stirring the copper kettle of apple butter and take your turn cranking the cider press. Children's games and crafts round out the fun. Fresh local apples and other goodies will be on sale in the Visitor Center.
