Historic Baseball Game - Father's Day weekend

Saturday, June 14

1:30pm

Bring Dad out to watch our home team, the Walnut Hill Bluestockings, compete in an 1870s-rules baseball game. Historic baseball rules apply, such as no overhand pitching, hitters can request the height of the pitch, a catch on the first bounce is an out, and no baseball gloves allowed. The team makes sure kids have a chance to bat around at the end of the game!

Spirited: Prohibition in America, Exhibit

Exhibition open: June 16 - August 10, 2014

Wallace Exhibit Center

Explore the history of Prohibition, from the dawn of the temperance movement to the unprecedented repeal of a constitutional amendment in 1933. This traveling exhibition from NEH on the Road brings visitors to Living History Farms back to the period of flappers and suffragists, bootleggers and temperance lobbyists, and real-life legends, such as Al Capone and Carry Nation. Through strong visual and interactive elements, Spirited draws on histories from both sides of the issue. Experience the inventive and ingenious ways lawmakers and the America public responded to Prohibition. Exhibit is free with regular admission to Living History Farms.

Pioneer Wedding

Saturday, June 21

Two ceremonies: 11 am and 2 pm

Meet Living History Farms' own June bride as you join the 1850 farm staff for a recreated pioneer wedding celebration, including a wedding ceremony and cake for the guests! Weddings brought the pioneer community together for traditional foods and fun. Discover the most popular gifts for a pioneer bride and watch the groomsmen ride the groom on a rail to celebrate his new good fortune. Help in the "shivaree" and play a good-natured, very noisy prank on the wedding couple. LHF visitors will become part of the day's fun, with ceremonies, cake and dancing, at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
