August 1, 2013 - The trustees of the W.T. and Edna M. Dahl Trust have announced a $500,000 endowment gift to Living History Farms.

In announcing the donation, Trustees Jerry Jones and Paul Tyler indicated their desire to augment the original gift to build the Tangen Home and Implement Dealership to maintain and preserve the buildings and to assist in funding year-round programs from the properties.

This new endowment gift of $500,000 will supplement the $160,000 already in the endowment that was provided in 1994, when the then anonymous gift of $1 million was made by W.T. and Edna M. Dahl to build the buildings in honor of W.T. Dahl's mother.

The Implement Dealership was built in 1995 and the Tangen Home in 1996.  These two buildings are in the fictitious town of Walnut Hill and depict rural Midwestern life in 1875. In addition to touring, the Tangen Home offers historic snapshots and programs all year including school tours, enrichments such as Barnyard Readers, and adult education classes, as well as the ever popular Historic Dinners during the winter.

"W.T. and Edna M. Dahl were a very entrepreneurial couple and possessed a strong work ethic and commitment to serve the community they lived in with passion.  We are very grateful to be honored with this legacy gift from the Dahl Trust," said Ruth Haus, President of Living History Farms.

WT Dahl founded Dahl Foods in 1931 with an investment of $600 and a 1,000 square foot facility.
