Baby Your Lips

With 50 days below zero this winter, your lips have suffered some brutal conditions! We're supposedly warming up soon, but after this winter, what can you really count on? Did you know that in cold temperatures, blood vessels in your lips constrict to minimize heat loss? The already super thin skin in your lips becomes drier as the amount of fluid decreases. Your lips begin to crack and fade.

Consider making your own lip scrub to exfoliate. We found a recipe online: Mix 1 tsp. olive oil with 1 Tbsp. brown sugar. Use this paste to remove flakes that are visible. The oil will leave behind softening essential fatty acids.

Aim to trap the lip skin's own moisture and prevent it from evaporating into the dry, cold air. Good old petrolatum is a superstar here and you probably have it
at home already.

Remember how your mom used to always tell you not to lick your lips in the cold outdoors? She was right. The enzymes in saliva can actually break
down delicate lip skin.
