Winter use of Kincaid Motocross area
There is currently a proposal before the Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department by the Alaska State Sno-X Lion's Club to open the Kincaid Motocross area, next to the Jodhpur ski loop and parking area, to winter snow machine use for a "snow cross" course. There will be a hearing before the Anchorage Parks & Recreation Commission on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 6:00 p.m. at the Spenard Recreation Center. If you have an interest in this issue, you might want to attend the meeting and/or send a letter to the Parks & Recreation Commission and the Parks & Recreation Department (mail and email addresses below.)

The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage Board of Directors has sent a letter to the Parks & Recreation Commission opposing the opening of the area for winter use for the following reasons: when it was open in the past, the snow machiners regularly left the motorized area and rode on the Kincaid trails, creating safety hazards for skiers and other users and damaging the groomed ski trails, and the noise has a negative impact on non-motorized users of the park.
In addition, the snow machine group that wants to reopen the area to winter use has an survey online so the public can give their input. If you would like to share your opinion with the Alaska State Sno-X Lion's Club CLICK HERE to take their survey.
