Volunteers needed to make phone calls

Although we have already recruited 2 volunteers to make phone calls, we have hundreds of calls to make and therefore could use additional help. We are in need of 5 volunteers to make phone calls to past year volunteers - you will provide basic information about Walk MS. Staff and interns will make follow up calls in March to help with registration. This is an easy volunteer project that you can do from home or in our office, whichever you prefer. To sign up, contact Joy McManus
2013 Employment Teleconference Series - Upcoming calls

Each teleconference will be available via a toll-free number and will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. You will need to register individually for each call you plan to attend. 2013 Public Policy Essay Contest - Winners announced

Last month we announced the 2013 Public Policy Essay Contest and this month we are happy to announce the winners. From March 4 to 6, Amy Bendekovits, Sue Gildea and Regina Lisella from Pennsylvania and Dr. Noreen Sisko from New Jersey will join hundreds of volunteers and staff from across the country to attend the National MS Society's Public Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. Amy (pictured below) is also one of our new spring interns.

The conference is the largest gathering of MS activists. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who submitted an essay, as well as the members of the review committee. We look forward to hearing about the conference upon the activists' return.

Walk MS - Changes for 2013

For returning Walk MS volunteers, you may notice some changes from last year. We have consolidated our 18 sites from 2012 into 14 sites in 2013. While we're going to miss the five affected sites (Main Line and Valley Forge in Pa. and Eastern High School, Moorestown High School and Parvin State Park in N.J.), we're excited about our new site - Devon Horse Show & Country Fair - as well as the opportunity to build more awareness and raise more funds on behalf of people living with MS. If you have any questions or feedback on the changes, please contact Joy McManus.
Community Outreach Days - Montgomery County and West Philly

Did you know that our chapter is out in the community on a monthly basis? During community outreach days, we go out to a local neighborhood, provide information, resources and referrals, and the opportunity to sit down with us one-on-one to answer your specific questions. As a volunteer, you may or may not have a direct connection to MS but we hope you can help us spread the word as we try to make it as convenient as possible for those living with MS, their families and caregivers to receive the information and answers they need. We will be at
MossRehab at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery on Monday, January 28 and in West Philly at LIFT-Philadelphia on Friday, February 22. For both locations, we will be on site from 10 a.m. to  4 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call our office at (215) 271-1500 (ask for Karen Sheppard).

Volunteers needed for data-entry

While it may not be the most "glamorous" volunteer job, it certainly is a big need and a big help to us. We have many partners in the community that we use as referrals for people living with MS, including neurologists, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals. When someone calls our local office or the national 800 number, there is a database we use to make these referrals. As with any database, the referral is only as good as the information in the database. To that end, we need 2 to 3 volunteers who are able to come into our center city office and enter and/or update these partners' information. Please contact Joy McManus if you're interested.
Now accepting applications for Summer internships

We are pleased to announce that we have successfully recruited an amazing 18 interns to work with us this spring. These students are intelligent, creative and motivated and we look forward to their contributions over the coming months. We have interns focusing on community outreach, HR, volunteerism, event planning, photography, social media, communications, public health and advocacy and they come to us from a variety of local colleges. We are also in the process of bringing on a high school intern who will get their first introduction to the working world.

We are currently interviewing for our summer internship program and encourage interested students to apply now by sending their cover letter and resume to Joy McManus. All internships are unpaid but may earn college credit.
