Volunteer Spotlight - Jackie Sloan
Jackie Sloan has been volunteering with the National MS Society for the past several years. She first became involved with the Society seven years ago when she was asked to sponsor a Bike MS: City to Shore Ride cyclist. After learning more about the ride, she was inspired to become a rider herself the next year. In addition to becoming a VIP Rider in City to Shore, she has also helped at Walk MS and often comes into the office to volunteer during her lunch breaks. "The gratitude in the office is surprising," says Jackie. "Everyone says thank you to me."
One of the things Jackie enjoys most about volunteering is that she has been able to interact with individuals personally affected by MS and hear their stories. After sustaining an injury last year, she was determined to come back to this year's City to Shore ride. "I knew I would definitely get better, so I wanted to ride for the people who can no longer do it themselves," says Jackie. "It feels good to give back. You don't need money to do it."
When asked what advice she would give to those thinking about volunteering, she says, "Do it if you have the time. It's a win-win situation, you'll feel good about doing it, and it won't cost you anything but your time." Join Jackie by volunteering at our events, in our office, or from home. Even just a little bit of your time can make a difference.
The volunteer spotlight is a new feature of our volunteer voice email. We hope to highlight volunteers in various roles periodically throughout the year. If you know of a volunteer who you would like to see highlighted in the future, contact Joy McManus. |
Additional volunteers needed for the Annual Meeting on December 4
After a great response from various vendors for our expo, we have decided that we could use some additional volunteers for our Annual Meeting. We need 10 additional volunteers on Tuesday, December 4 between the hours of 4:30 and 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia-Cherry Hill. Join us and keynote speaker David Osmond as we celebrate the year's accomplishments and hear about the latest news in MS research. Volunteers will receive dinner and are welcome to stay for the program. To register, contact Joy McManus. |
Volunteers needed to make phone calls in December
We are in need of 5 volunteers to make phone calls during the month of December. We will be making calls to Walk MS 2012 volunteers to let them know about the exciting changes happening with the campaigns next year, and to remind them that Walk MS 2013 registration is now open. This is an easy volunteer project that you can do from home or in our office, whichever you prefer! To sign up, contact Joy McManus. |

We will begin interviewing for summer internships in February 2013, however we have already begun to receive resumes so feel free to let your children, family members and friends know.
