Bison Bling Helping Biologists Study Iconic Herd
If you have made your way into the Island's interior recently, you may have noticed that a few of the bison have been outfitted with some new bling.
In May, five bison females, or cows, were fitted with satellite linked global positioning system (GPS) collars. These collars are some of the most sophisticated wildlife tracking collars available. They have been programmed to collect location data every three hours and transfer the data to satellites every 12 hours. To learn more details about how the GPS collars are being used in research to help manage our iconic heard, please click here. For a photo gallery, please click here.
