MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Conservancy Times - The magazine's refreshed look highlights the work of the Conservancy. Also read In the News online for recent Conservancy stories in the media. And mark your calendars to watch the segment on Catalina's Garden to Sky Hike on the Live Well Network @ 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 20. Motion stars Greg Aiello.

Greetings!

The Conservancy Ball is one of my favorite annual fundraising events, giving us all - board, donors, staff, members and friends new and old - a chance to have a wonderful evening together. Please join us on Saturday, April 5, in the historic Avalon Casino Ballroom for this one-of-a-kind gala, which supports the Conservancy's programs.

For our Conservancy members, you will be receiving the Conservancy Times in a few weeks. The refreshed magazine continues the tradition of excellent articles and photographs of the Conservancy's ongoing work.

Sincerely,

Ann M. Muscat, Ph.D., President and CEO

The Catalina Island Conservancy estimates that 1,852 foxes live on Catalina. That's 350 animals over the previous year's count. The marked increase is due to a number of complex factors, according to Conservancy Wildlife Biologist Calvin Duncan.

Bald eagles began incubating eggs in Catalina nests this spring for the eighth straight year. Step back to 2007, when America's icon successfully bred on Catalina without human help after years of absence. As the spring hiking season gets underway, the Catalina Island Conservancy offers a few suggestions on what to bring on a trek as well as a few refreshers on trail etiquette. Also, a rule of honor is to pack back out everything that you took into the wildlands. Free hiking permits are required and available online as well as from any Conservancy location.
