MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The annual Avalon Underwater Cleanup is one of my favorite Conservancy events. As a marine biologist who has dived the waters off Catalina for years, I appreciate the wonderful service that the Catalina Conservancy Divers support group and other divers from near and far perform for the good of Avalon Bay and the USC Hyperbaric Chamber.

Divers and spectators alike all enjoy the great fun hauling items to the surface and sharing in the spirited camaraderie of fellow divers. Event Chair Jill Boivin deserves a heartfelt thanks for coordinating this event each year.

Sincerely,

Ann M. Muscat, Ph.D., President and CEO

The nature of Island nature is that it breeds giants and dwarves. It may seem nuts to call a squirrel a giant, but the most conspicuous of Catalina's outsized residents is the Catalina California ground squirrel.

Explore Catalina looks at Island issues through the lenses of Conservancy biologists and field team members.

The Iberian Peninsula is home to a beautiful and secretive wild cat. Biologists have been hard at work to count the number of endangered Iberian lynx roaming free in Portugal and Spain.

The Catalina Island Conservancy's Isla Earth Radio Series broadcasts critical conservation stories.

AIRPORT TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY

Closing Won't Effect Landings or Wildlands Express

The terminal at the Airport in the Sky will close temporarily from February 19 to 21 for termite tenting. The airport staff will set up in a remote location with a radio and land air traffic. The Wildlands Express shuttle will operate. The DC3 Gifts & Grill will also be closed. A portable restroom facility will be available at the site.

RUN FOR A REASON!
