The Catalina Island Conservancy's Isla Earth Radio Series can be heard on Clear Channel Communications Los Angeles station KFI AM 640 and "I Heart Radio." The show is now carried by 316 radio stations with 8.9 million weekly listeners. Isla Earth presents fun and engaging science-based programs that look at the challenges and opportunities critical to the health and well-being of this island we call Earth.

MORE SCRIPPS'S MURRELET NESTS FOUND

Catalina Island Conservancy biologists confirmed that the Scripps's murrelet, a secretive, rare seabird that was not known to be on the Island until recently, nested in the same rocky north-shore areas where it was found last year. The total of murrelet nests that have been found on Catalina now numbers seven.

You'll find Rebecca Cano out in Catalina's interior collecting seeds, at the Ackerman Native Plant Nursery watering plants, sorting seeds, and transplanting seedlings in her role as the Catalina Island Conservancy's native plant technician.

The Airport in the Sky is fortunate to have two summer airport coordinator interns from Purdue University, where the Aviation Management Program is among the top such programs in the United States. Reilly Ashton Meehan and Deborah H. Bae are advancing their educations while enjoying the unique experience of Catalina Island. They will be in the tower through August 14,
mentored by Jorge O'Leary, director of airport operations.

CHRISTOPHER JARVI: VISIONARY PLANNER

Recreation Visionary - Christopher Jarvi aided Catalina's camping and hiking accessibility.

Christopher Kent Jarvi, a former Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation planner, who in 1974 supported the Catalina Island Conservancy's mission to allow public access to the Island's wildlands, passed away of pancreatic cancer on April 22 at his home in Anaheim Hills, Calif. He was 68.

HIKE TO LITTLE HARBOR HOSTED BY MARINEROS

Hike and picnic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, on the West End of the Island. The five-mile hike will begin at Two Harbors and end at the reserved picnic site at Little Harbor. A Safari bus will be provided for non-hikers and bring everyone back to Two Harbors. The event is organized by the Conservancy's support group called the Marineros.
