Greetings!
"Ne Shun Tachi," the Island's beloved captive Catalina Island fox, above, who touched the hearts of untold thousands, passed away in her sleep on the evening of December 15, 2012, from a form of round-cell cancer. To the end "Our Little Girl of Hope" served as an ambassador for her species. Read more here.
We hope that you enjoy this issue. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me.

The New Year presents a chance to celebrate the Conservancy's many dedicated volunteers in photos. The invaluable AmeriCorps volunteers will be returning to Island duties in 2013 following their East Coast cleanup activities in the wake of "Superstorm Sandy." This month's Photo Gallery celebrates all the volunteers who sacrifice time and commit efforts to Conservancy activities, including the annual Avalon Bay Underwater Cleanup in February, Conservancy Ball in April, and all of the Island's various running events. |

For the past two fox-trapping seasons, which last two to three months in autumn, Dvorak has helped ensure that the federally endangered Catalina Island foxes are caught up on their distemper shots and are free of ear mites.

It turns out that we should celebrate foggy days almost as much as rainy days here on Catalina.
