In what MMAC President Tim Sheehy called, "a great bi-partisan step forward toward making Wisconsin a more attractive place to create jobs," the state Assembly on Tuesday, July 28 gave final legislative approval to a public funding package for a new downtown Milwaukee sports and entertainment arena. The arena proposal passed on a bi-partisan vote of 52-34.

"This vote is a great example of individuals from every corner of Wisconsin putting aside regional and political differences and working together for the benefit of the entire state," said Sheehy. "I want to especially commend Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Minority Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) for their leadership in making today a great bi-partisan step forward toward making Wisconsin a more attractive place to create jobs."

With successful passage of the arena package in Madison, the project now moves to the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County elected leaders for final approval. Sheehy expressed optimism that local officials would act swiftly with their endorsement.

Marquette poll finds some areas for collaboration among residents of Chicago "megacity"

A recent poll by the Marquette University Law School found that a majority of respondents believe political leaders from Southeastern Wisconsin, greater Chicago and Northwestern Indiana should work together to promote economic development throughout the region instead of competing with each other. General support for cooperation extends to coordination on transportation projects and professional licensing, but not to tourism or efforts to attract large businesses to the region.

Opening a new brewery on the site of the original Pabst Brewery, founded in 1844, the company is getting back to its craft roots with a microbrewery and tasting room.

"It's very exciting for us to have this innovation laboratory, and to be back in our hometown," said Eugene Kashper. "There's so much loyalty and passion for the brand."
