Future of the Milwaukee's new Sports & Entertainment
Arena remains unresolved   


Gov. Scott Walker, MKE County Exec. Chris Abele and MKE Mayor Tom Barrett held a press conference at the Capital on June 4 to unveil the arena funding proposal they had hammered out. >>View press conference 

Highlights included:

The Governor also sited that Wisconsin's income tax revenues from NBA players are projected to grow to more than $400 million over the next 20 years. This is due to a newly negotiated rights deals between the NBA and broadcasting companies.    

For the funding proposal to move forward, both the Milwaukee Common Council and Milwaukee County Board must approve their portion of the funding. 
MATC brings talent workforce solutions to COSBE board meeting
Dr. Vicki Martin, president of Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), spoke to MMAC's Council of Small Business Executives (COSBE) last Thursday about her efforts to produce more  globally competitive graduates for the Milwaukee region.

With more than 40,000 students enrolled, MATC is Wisconsin's only majority-minority higher education institution. Many of its students are from low-income households, creating some unique challenges for the school.  Martin focused her remarks on key initiatives that address the gap between graduates' skills and the needs of employers.
Between 2010-2020, 51% of job openings in Wisconsin will be middle-skill - defined as requiring education beyond high school, but not a four-year degree. And according to the National Skills Coalition, these jobs make up the largest part of the U.S. -- and Wisconsin's -- labor market. >>READ MORE
Marquette University asks public to engage on cultural and entertainment asset discussion

Marquette Law School and the Public Policy Forum launched an interactive website that encourages citizens to set their own cultural and entertainment priorities for Milwaukee - then decide how to pay for them. Users may then share their customized list of priorities and solutions within their social networks. The site can be accessed at simulation.law.marquette.edu

M-WERC announces first accelerator class 

The Midwest Energy Research Consortium (M-WERC) named the participants in its first energy accelerator program, WERCBench Labs. M-WERC operates the new Energy Innovation Center at Milwaukee's Century City Tower. Click here for class participants.

HUSCO International Inc. was named the #1 Business of the Year by the Waukesha County Business Alliance and BizTimes Media at the annual Top 10 Businesses of the Year luncheon.  

The Pub Club premiered it's new parklet - a deck constructed between the sidewalk and the traffic lane, in what previously were parking spaces - for Downtown Dining last week on Old World 3rd St. The Pub Club recently began serving lunch on weekdays and brunch on weekends.

Kapco ranks fourth on the list of largest fabricators

Kapco Metal Stamping, a supplier of metal components and services, has been recognized as one of the most successful metal-fabricating companies in the United States. The award honors companies ranked by annual sales data.

Congrats to Children's Hospital

For the second consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin No. 5 in cardiology and heart surgery and gave them top spots in additional specialties.

Port director confirmed

After serving as two years as the Acting Port Director, Paul Vornholt has formally assumed the duties of Municipal Port Director at the Port of Milwaukee, following a nomination by Mayor Tom Barrett and confirmation of the Milwaukee Common Council.

Froedtert names chief diversity officer

Andres Gonzalez has been tapped to expand workforce diversity and strengthen community relationships as Froedtert Health's chief diversity officer.
