"Prior to attending Yo San, I worked for Duke Clinical Research Institute as a Clinical Research Associate. I traveled to participating hospitals across the country to ensure adherence to study protocol, ICH guidelines, Good Clinical Practices and FDA regulations.
My interest in Chinese medicine began with a suggestion from a friend to try acupuncture as an alternative treatment for migraine headaches. I was drawn to TCM's theory of treating the root of an illness and was motivated by the way it worked to heal the mind and body as one entity. I knew immediately that I wanted to learn to practice this medicine and began the search for a school offering a strong foundation in TCM theory, acupuncture, herbology, and clinical training in China. I found all of those things and more at Yo San."

Dr. Debbie Rodriguez
Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, as a child Debbie Rodriguez was always the member of her peer group who cared for stray or injured animals. Those early caretaking behaviors developed into aspirations to be a veterinarian. Debbie eventually found herself working with large animals as an assistant in a veterinary clinic. Building on that background Debbie also completed a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Colorado at Denver with a major in Biology, graduating with mixed motivations regarding whether to become a veterinarian or a medical doctor. When she found herself in the world of finance and munitions, Debbie knew that she had to return to her passion. Her innate sense of caring for others as well as several transformational family and personal health experiences led Debbie directly to Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was both her personal passion about the medicine and her innate sense of empathy, care and ability to be instrumental in the empowerment of others that motivated Debbie to seek professional training to prepare for a career in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
After completing the Yo San University Master's Degree program in 2006, Debbie earned the California acupuncture license in 2007. She has subsequently been the proprietor of the "Heart of Healing Acupuncture" practice in the San Diego suburb of Poway. Debbie's background also includes advanced or certificate level training in constitutional facial acupuncture and Western internal medicine. Studying and practicing through the Chi Health Institute in Santa Monica, Debbie also earned certification as a Harmony Tai Chi Instructor with focus on the nuances of the Ni Family forms. Debbie's practice has included significant effort to spread the word about Traditional Chinese Medicine in circles where the medicine has had little visibility such as in weight loss and yoga practice centers.
