May 2013
Greetings!

Yo San University is an institution of higher learning that draws from thousands of years of ancient wisdom, family legacy, and modern medicine. We respect and embody the Taoist principles and theories that develop the mind body and spirit alike. Qi cultivation is an empowering skill not just in becoming a practitioner, but understanding the essence in being a healer.

Yo San University is a global advocate and thought leader in the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Western allopathic medicine; we make sure through coursework, mentorship, and integrative practice, that our students are highly capable of interacting with patients and all medical professionals. Our mission is to help cultivate a healthy mind, body, and spirit to prepare our students for successful careers as medical practitioners.

I want to welcome you to the Yo San University e-newsletter where I have provided a snapshot into the life of our strong community where students, faculty/staff, alumni, and the greater community share a common notion for this well-lived, well-loved place where we come to grow, learn, and practice. Yo San serves as a place of centered wholeness where we learn to perceive the patterns of imbalance in others to then help guide them towards a healthy life in harmony and balance with nature. I welcome you to explore the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) amongst the strong community of healers here at Yo San University!

100% Passed at CALE

Yes, we did it again!! It is our pleasure to announce that Yo San recent grads achieved a perfect 100% pass rate for our first-time test takers on the recent February 2013 California Acupuncture Licensing Examination (CALE). We have successfully ranked among the top highest pass rates for first-time test takers! Our past and current pass rates have demonstrated that we teach and prepare our students to be the best, not just within the parameter of Yo San, but in their endeavors long after their completion of their degree. And as the results have shown, other competing Universities that have sent students to take the February exam fell below their average pass rate, therefore making the distinction that here at Yo San we strive for the success of our students, and will continue to put forth our upmost efforts to maintain Yo San as a leading TCM University.

Our heartiest congratulations go out to all our recent graduates on your remarkable success in this rigorous and challenging examination. We are very proud of your achievement!

We would like to also express appreciation and gratitude to all our esteemed faculty members who have nurtured and guided our students toward success and who have served as role models to all our students. The YSU faculty and Academic Dean is dedicated to making sure our students are prepared to take the challenging California examination by administering review courses here on campus, or directing our students to resources that are geared specifically on material covered. This year's 5 week CALE review course for the February test takers was instructed by Craig Swogger, successful Yo San University alum who has effectively demonstrated the YSU educational objective to acquire the necessary skills to begin a professional practice and develop the ability to effectively communicate and educate integrative medical care models.

Way to go Yo San, we did it again!!

Chocolate + Herbs = Alumni Scholarship

Chocolate + Herbs picture

Who would ever expect chocolate to have immediate and direct health benefits? Thanks to Yo San University graduate, Traver Boehm, practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine now have a unique and delightful way for their patients to take their herbal medicine.

ChocolaTao, founded by Boehm and his partner, Joel Chapman, is a company that offers handmade, organic, free trade, quality American chocolate. The twist! These chocolates are infused with herbal formulations that treat a range of ailments from PMS to decreased libido.

As a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, and wellness coach, Boehm knows which herbs and formulations have been successful for over 5,000 years. He and professional chef Chapman combined the best in holistic herbology with the delicious decadence of good, old-fashioned chocolate. The resulting product is a guilt-free line of ChocolaTao treats.

For the 2013 school year, 10% of the total proceeds from selected ChocolaTao sales, including Yo San University related retail establishments, alumni offices, and internet sales, will be donated to Yo San University's Alumni Scholarship Fund. Trevor said, "Joel and I are both huge fans of TCM and holistic medicine at large. The more people that we can expose to these great healing protocols, the healthier our country will be."

To try any of ChocolaTao's products and give to the Alumni Scholarship Fund, visit the Yo San University bookstore, The Wellness store, or several Yo San University alumni clinic offices to purchase your chocolate bars. For a complete list of available stores, go to www.chocolatao.com, where you may also purchase directly online.

Tree of Wisdom & Wellness UNVEILED

In recognition of the solid foundation that Yo San University supporters have helped build over the years, the university established a donor wall on the first floor of the campus.  On Oct. 24, 2012, Yo San University held an intimate reception to thank donors and officially unveil the donor wall.

Entitled the Yo San University Tree of Wisdom and Wellness, the wall is carved into the shape of a tree with the names of each donor engraved on the individual leaves and surrounding stones and acorns. As with the care of a strong, sturdy tree, Yo San University's evolution and years of progress could only come about through the caring and nurturing from its donors. They provided the resources to make each milestone happen and continue to do so today. Thus, the Tree of Wisdom and Wellness is a symbol of what the university's friends have brought about.

Yo San University President, Dr. Lawrence Ryan, ended the evening by thanking everyone for their continued generous support. As Yo San University matures, we will undoubtedly see the tree grow and leaves multiply as well.

Faculty Spotlight
Yo San University has some of the most talented and clinically experienced university faculty of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the United States. They are talented, passionate about their profession and have a sophisticated command of their disciplines. Each month we will spotlight a different faculty member to further educate you on who they are and what you can learn from them to expand your knowledge, skill-set and knowledge in TCM.
