Iowa State University
Extension and Outreach Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) is creating a strong Iowa and making a positive impact.

When Iowa's agricultural producers and businesses have questions about their operations, they find answers from the 41 field specialists across the state and 85 faculty and staff in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine who provide expertise in agricultural engineering, agronomy, beef, dairy, farm management, horticulture, and swine. Find out what ANR looks like by the numbers.

A farm just outside of Gilmore City is home to ISU Extension and Outreach's Agriculture Drainage Research and Demonstration Site, a facility that recently celebrated 25 years of working to further Iowa State's water conservation efforts.

Applying Nutrient Reduction Strategies to Cropland
Since 2010, Iowa Learning Farm programs on cover crops, conservation tillage, and conservation drainage have resulted in farmers adopting practices that improved their nutrient management. Of 1,256 farmers surveyed that had attended programs on these topics, 88% responded that they made changes in their operations. These farmers represent 174,000 acres that have benefited from practices that reduce nutrient runoff. You can tour a farm field with an ANR web-based tool to learn more about practices that improve water quality through "Managing the N Factor."

Field Agronomists Help Iowa Farmers
Each growing season farmers face unforeseen challenges. Extreme weather, unanticipated pests, unknown soil conditions - all these factors can interfere with producing an exceptional crop. Farmers contact field agronomists or access information online every day asking for help to sort out crop issues and find ways to lessen detrimental effect on yields.

Dairy Producers Adopt Practices that Turn Profit
June is Dairy Month. Dairy Days is offered in multiple locations throughout the state by field and campus extension specialists. The education provided helps producers adjust their practices to improve efficiencies and profitability. That's good for them and their local communities.

Farm Management Education for Women in Iowa
Educational programs, such as Annie's Project, are dedicated to strengthening women's roles in the modern farm enterprise. The Woman in Agriculture Program enables women to become better farm business partners by fostering problem solving, record keeping, and decision-making skills.

Did you know? For the fourth straight year, Iowa State was ranked in the top 10 for programs in agriculture and forestry by QS World University Rankings.
