Everywhere for all Iowans -- that is ISU Extension and Outreach.

• There are 1,200 faculty and staff in all 99 Iowa counties, taking Iowa State University to every community.
• Extension and Outreach recruits and trains 900 elected county council members and 16,000 volunteers who support the land-grant mission.
• Extension and Outreach builds meaningful partnerships that directly benefit more than 1 million people each year:
• Working with colleges to offer students internships in communities through Extension and Outreach.
• Master Gardener training, a 40-hour core course, includes a day on campus where trainees meet extension faculty from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
• 1,000 youth come to campus in June for the Extension and Outreach sponsored Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, giving them an educational and fun campus experience.
• Extension and Outreach's community and economic development work uses culturally relevant frameworks to reach out to under served populations; results include more entrepreneurship among African Americans, Latinos, and women.
• Extension and Outreach responds to critical statewide issues:
• Researchers identify best practices for reducing nutrient loss from farmland, farmers establish demonstrations to determine which practices work best on their land, and extension ag specialists work with them to discover and interpret results.
• Extension and Outreach works across state lines to prepare resources for families facing challenges brought on by avian influenza, providing information on everything from food safety education and stretching food dollars to implementing strategies to manage a family's finances and stress during tough times.
