Iowa State University's popularity among Iowans, and among students all over the world, continues to reach unprecedented levels. Iowa State's total enrollment for Fall 2014 has climbed to 34,732, making this the sixth year of record enrollment and the eighth consecutive year of growth for the state's largest university.
As Iowa's land-grant institution, Iowa State University has always made the recruitment of Iowa students its number one priority, and much of its record growth can be attributed to its popularity within the state. Below are a few highlights:
- Iowa State continues its long history of being the number one choice of Iowa high school graduates and Iowa community college transfer students, enrolling new students from all 99 Iowa counties.
- Total undergraduate Iowa student enrollment has reached a new record of 18,478, a 2.6% increase over last year's record.
- Total Iowa student enrollment has also reached a record high of 20,260, a 2.1% increase from last year.
To support the growth of the student body, Iowa State leased space for an additional 250 students to live in university housing and hired more than 100 new faculty members. The Board of Regents also recently approved a plan for a new residence hall on campus, which would house an additional 700 students upon completion.
Iowa State remains attractive to students from outside of Iowa and around the globe with another record enrollment of nonresident and international undergraduates (10,415 up from 9,650 last year). Iowa State enrolled students from all 50 states and 110 countries.
Iowa State's enrollment also set records for U.S. multicultural students with 4,065 (11.7% of total enrollment). More than one in five Iowa State students is either a U.S. multicultural student or an international student.
Did you know? Iowa State enrolls more Iowa high school graduates and Iowa community college transfer students than any other higher education institution. While Iowa State is large, it has the feel of a smaller university because of an engaging student experience, caring community, and dedicated faculty and staff.
