In addition to the 96,000 alumni living in Iowa and the almost 20,000 in-state students, each year nearly one million people directly benefit from Iowa State education and research. That number includes 1-in-5 Iowa youth, 17,000 volunteers, and adults of all ages.
- Through Iowa State's economic development programs, over 8,000 people across all 99 counties in Iowa were employed in new jobs or retained their jobs in fiscal year 2012.
- Iowa State's Christina Hixson Opportunity Awards program is the only scholarship program in Iowa that provides financial assistance to a student from every county in Iowa.
- In the most recent federal fiscal reporting period (FY2011) the Small Business Development Center, served 2,695 clients with $42 million in new capital raised.
- The Iowa State University Research Park serves 55 companies employing 1,240 people and 16 affiliates employing 139 people.
