This week, Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences held its annual fall career day. For years, it has been the largest event of its kind in the nation, attracting students from campuses across the country, but this year it also was the biggest event ever with more than 230 employers present.

And that was just the beginning. The career day was followed by an intensive day of employer interview schedules. More than 600 individual interviews were conducted for full-time jobs and internships.

ISU's agricultural career day has continued to grow, reflecting a continuing high demand for graduates both in Iowa and nationwide. More students are recognizing the diverse career paths available. They are embracing the science, technology and education required to address growing global challenges linked to agriculture in food, water, environment, climate, energy and economy. That they choose Iowa State for their agricultural education is a testament to the high quality programs and worldwide reputation for excellence here.

The numbers tell the story. Since the fall of 2005, undergraduate enrollment in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has increased 75%. The college has set all-time enrollment records for the past two years.

The good news for Iowa is that 73% of ISU's new graduates in agriculture and life sciences start their careers in Iowa. Students find that opportunities abound, whether right here in the state or halfway around the world.
