-Make Your Voice Heard-
Iowa State University's Graduate College coordinates advanced degree and certificate programs for more than 4,600 graduate students, and also serves hundreds of postdoctoral research associates. The college fosters creativity and discovery, provides professional-development opportunities, and educates new intellectual leaders who will meet critical local, national, and international needs by advancing and sharing knowledge within and across academic disciplines.

The Graduate College impacts the State of Iowa in countless ways:

  • Nine of Iowa's current community college presidents, and many administrators at those colleges, earned graduate degrees at Iowa State.
  • i
  • Iowa State's Virtual Reality Applications Center has spawned more than 10 start-up companies, most based in Iowa. The Center promotes interdisciplinary research through an innovative graduate program in Human Computer Interaction.
  • i
  • Wind Energy Science, Engineering, and Policy, a new graduate program, is a collaboration of faculty from numerous departments who won support to create the program from the National Science Foundation.
  • i
  • Excellence and innovation are hallmarks of programs in design, the social sciences, and humanities. For example, Applied Linguistics and Technology is a national leader in meeting the demand for professionals working at the interface of linguistics and computer technology.
  • i
  • On average, an Iowa State graduate student contributes 60 hours of service annually to schools, civic organizations, or other Iowa clients.
  • i
  • Many programs have established learning communities to help students transition to graduate school. Students in these communities collaborate on course projects, hone their skills as teaching assistants, and take the first steps toward pursuing original research.

Did you know? 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the Graduate College at Iowa State. The College offers degrees and certificates in more than 110 fields of study - everything from accounting to creative writing, crop production to history, and urban design to wildlife ecology.
