Commemorations
This Week
Friday, July 1
Catherine Winkworth, died 1878
John Mason Neale, died 1866
hymn translators
Neale was an English priest who specialized in the translation of Latin and Greek hymns into English.

Winkworth lived in Manchester, England, and devoted herself to translating German hymns.

Almost all English-speaking hymnals include many of their translations.

Sunday, July 3
Thomas, Apostle
Though frequently remembered as "doubting Thomas," this apostle also demonstrated a willingness to suffer and die with Jesus (John 11:16), and finally claimed the risen Christ as "my Lord and my God!" By tradition, he later worked as a missionary in India. Long commemorated on December 21, Thomas's celebration is moved to July 3 in agreement with ecumenical calendars.

Wednesday, July 6
Jan Hus
martyr, died 1415
Hus was a Bohemian (present-day Czech Republic) priest who spoke against abuses in the church, and was seen by Martin Luther as his predecessor in the reforming movement. He was found guilty of heresy by a council of the church, and burned at the stake.

Small Groups will return!

Greetings!

We had a great start to the Small Groups Ministry at St. John. We started during Lent and had about 80 people step forward to try out, and be blessed by this new ministry. We had the opportunity to get to know each other better and make deeper connections with our church brothers and sisters. We also grew spiritually!

We are planning to do a survey of those who participated to get a better idea of what worked and how we can improve the experience and expand the program and we hope you will consider participating in the survey - more about that when we have the survey set up.

Since summer can be challenging with vacations and weekends away, the Small Groups have decided to wind down for the summer but have no fear, we will be "winding back up again" in the fall!
We look forward to having more small groups develop in the fall and hope that you will all consider joining a group.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for activities, studies, projects that you would like to see small groups focus on for the fall, please let one of us know so we can look into how your idea might fit into the Small Group Ministry program. We will be working over the summer to develop the program further for the fall and we welcome your input.

Thanks to all who participated and welcome in advance to those who will consider participating in the fall!

Please see Kevin O'Brien, Pam Shapiro or Janice Locke if you have suggestions, questions or comments.

Growing together in Christ,

Your Small Group Ministry Team.

Hey, Guys!
The "Friday Guys" are looking for volunteers that would be interested in helping clean the church and doing some light maintenance on Fridays, starting around 8:30  am. There are also opportunities to help on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. The work is basically cleaning the old section of the building, the office area, and the bathrooms.

If interested or would like more information please contact Tom Bosanko or Terry Shelton.
