A Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project to replace a water main will soon begin in your community.
The water main on Catalina Boulevard is in urgent need of replacement due to a recent water main break. The Catalina Boulevard Emergency Pipeline Replacement Project will replace about a quarter mile (1,260 linear feet) of existing deteriorated 24-inch cast iron pipeline with a new 24-inch water transmission pipeline and a new 8-inch water distribution polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipeline.
Preliminary activities are tentatively scheduled to start during the week of April 18, 2016.The first step in the project includes locating reference points and placing markers on the streets that will guide the pipeline replacement work. Once markers and reference points are in place, potholing, the process of safely locating underground utilities, will follow.
Construction work is anticipated to start in mid to late May 2016 and be completed by winter 2017.
Once construction work starts, water service to some residences and businesses may be provided by a two-inch temporary above-ground pipe (referred to as high-line pipe) which is installed along the curb. This allows the City to shut down the existing main so that it can be replaced. Impacted residences and businesses will be notified prior to being connected to the high-line. Please exercise caution when parking along the high-line as tires can rupture the pipe. Once the initial work is completed, the removal and replacement of the existing pipeline will begin. This phase will include the installation of new water pipes, valves, and service connections.
Once the new pipeline is installed and put into service, final paving and striping, will be implemented.
**Special note: If rain occurs prior to a scheduled construction activity, the work will take place on the next dry day. If there is a change of schedule, you will receive a door hanger about 24 hours in advance with the new schedule.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while work begins on this project. Every provision will be taken to quickly and efficiently complete the work.
