Avenida De La Playa Infrastructure Replacement Project &
Sewer and Water Group 809

Dear Stakeholder

You are subscribed to received construction updates on the Avenida De La Playa Infrastructure Replacement Project and Sewer and Water Group Job 809

-The Avenida De La Playa Infrastructure Project is requiring a change in the design. The prefabricated culvert boxes will need to be lowered by 10 inches to provide the street section with adequate flow.

-The City has directed the contractor, HPS Mechanical, to work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday to get the schedule with the redesign back on track. HPS has backfilled the hole at the end of RCB boxes and installed an additional dewatering well.

-On Saturday, April 12 the contractor will dig out and haul off the slurry on each side of the boxes installed to date.   A 550-ton crane will be brought in on Tuesday, April 15 to set up on Camino Del Oro to expedite the removal of the boxes, and later, the resetting of the culvert boxes.

-As part of its undergrounding of power lines, SDG&E needs to complete a conduit to the La Jolla Shores Hotel. SDG&E says it needs to shut off power for several hours to the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club and La Jolla Shores Hotels in order for that to happen. Management at the hotels asked SDG&E to wait until after Spring Break to do the work. Therefore, the power shutoff will not be until April 21st.

-For Group Job 809, sewer laterals are being installed on the northern part of El Paseo Grande. Sawcutting is taking place on Paseo Del Ocaso, north of Avenida De La Playa. -Next week, trenching and replacement of the sewer line will begin on Paseo Del Ocaso from Avenida De La Playa to Vallecitos. Potholing (digging of small holes to locate utilities) will take place south of Avenida De La Playa on El Paseo Grande, Paseo Del Ocaso and Calle De La Plata.

-The archeological survey at Vallecitos, Camino Del Sol, and Avenida De La Ribera has come across uncharted information. The excavation has uncovered evidence of a campfire and seafood from a time period when the area was marshland. This information will not delay construction, and will be used for reference for future work in the community.

-La Jolla Half Marathon will be rerouted on April 27th from the boardwalk to Vallecitos, to Avenida De La Ribera and to Paseo Dorado.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while work progresses on this project. Every provision will be taken to quickly and efficiently complete the work.
