Yes it is true! We have officially changed our name, but we really haven't changed anything. Our father and founder, David Shapiro has always pronounced his name Sha"pie"ro as did the generations before him. It has only been our generation and those coming after who accepted and used the Shapiro pronunciation. So we are doing a "throwback" as they do in sports as a tribute to the generations before us and going back to our historical roots. So yes, we have put the "eye" back in Shapiro!
