Evolution Window Films - E-News
Greetings!

We kick off this issue with some helpful information on saving you energy $s.

Energy Costs

Home Energy Savings with window films

Heating and cooling your home can be expensive. In the summer, the sun's heat can turn your house into a hot sauna. In winter, heat escapes through windows and raises your heating prices. That makes home energy savings a little tough.

Heat Control

Turning on the air conditioner will cool things down but, drive your energy prices up. Window film provides a shield-like performance which can block as much as 83% of the sun's heat and place less stress on your air conditioner. It also provides a thermal barrier that shields your home from heat escaping through glass and helps retain up to 15% of the internal warmth of your home during the winter months.

Reduce Energy Bills

Window film will help regulate your home's climate more efficiently by blocking heat from the sun, reducing glare, and balancing consistent, internal temperatures. By installing window film over an existing window, you will see savings on both your winter heating and your summer cooling bills. The money you save with an energy-efficient window film is money placed back in your pocket. Learn more about residential solutions

"The glare from the sun made it difficult for customers to view the 110" projection screen TV."

Feb. 2013

Last month, Evolution Window Films installed Madico SRS220 8mm window film on the windows of the "The Bar Upstairs" at the Niagara Ball Hockey Athletic Centre.

"Come in and enjoy the enhanced comfort at the Niagara Ball Hockey Athletic Centre in St. Catharines, Ontario. Take in the view of the ball hockey game right from your seat in the beautifully renovated dining lounge/bar area."

Only 2 months ago, Brian and Luanne Broley took over "The Bar Upstairs" located upstairs in the Niagara Ball Hockey Athletic Centre at the corner of Westchester Ave. and HWY 406. Some other facility upgrades include new change rooms, a new indoor and outdoor ball hockey rink and more parking.

The Challenge

The walls of windows in the "The Bar Upstairs" offer a beautiful view of the ball hockey arena and the surrounding landscape, but the many windows presented a challenge to the owners.

The glare from the sun made it difficult for customers to view the 110" projection screen TV. At certain times of day, the sun would be quite hot coming in through the windows, making it uncomfortable for diners in those areas of the lounge. Brian and Luanne were also concerned that the sunlight would fade and prematurely age the richly colored red carpet. These challenges not only affected their material investment in the building, but affected their ability to offer their customers the high level of comfort they deserved.

They considered the option of covering the windows with drapes or blinds, but that meant that no one could see out. Their view of the ball hockey games and the surrounding environment would also be obstructed and natural light would be limited. The solution

Frequently Asked Questions

# 1. Can window film stop fading of my furniture, artwork and other objects?

Window film is constructed with ultraviolet inhibitors embedded in the films adhesive which blocks up to 99 percent of the ultraviolet energy that is harmful to humans and damaging to fabrics and furnishings. However, ultraviolet energy is only one of the factors that contribute to fading. It is estimated that ultraviolet is responsible for roughly 40 to 60 percent of fading. Solar heat and light energy also contribute to fading, as does humidity, moisture, abuse and the quality of some dyes used in fabrics. Since these factors vary for different types of films and materials, the fade reduction benefit will also vary depending on the type of film selected, the quality of the products being protected and the environment.
