In December we said
"Goodbye/Hello" to members of our CBC Advisory Board.  Many thanks to our 2010-2012 members, Barb Bentree, Jacob Easley II and Bob Williamson for their service and support.  We welcome our newest board members for 2013-2015: Ron Galip, Rich Maize and Larry Napoleon.  You can learn more about our board members at our website,

We updated our CBC website last month.  Please vist there to see project updates and more details about our everyday comings and goings.
"Free" services are, for CBC and all non-profits, as good as receiving monetary gifts!  We want to take a minute to acknowledge those who provide us with pro-bono services.  Many thanks to:  Kathleen & Margurete at Creative Business Mangement; Jim Gerlach and Mike Anness at
Anness, Gerlach & Williams; Becky Antworth at Hired Gun Writing; and everyone atThe Clearpoint Agency.  You'll find links to these organizations on our website at Friends.

Thanks to the three CBC supporters who took part in our gift exchange this year.  We hope they are enjoying their Flip Speaker Dock from Brookstone.

MARCH, 2013

Spring is busting out all over here at CBC.  We've been busy over the winter and can't wait to share this update with you.
We invite you to read on...............

Samantha TRAP
Samantha, Stephen & Shea
Youngstown, OH
In December, Shea Whinnery, our Rich Center project facilitator, got engaged and moved to Florida to begin an exciting new phase of life.  We were extremely fortunate to find a wonderful replacement for Shea in Samantha Russo - a YSU senior completing her nursing degree this spring.  With Shea's help and a formal training session with the TRAP curriculum conducted by Stephen Flinn of Los Angeles, January became a transition month for our Count Me In, Rich Center project.  Samantha is comfortably situated now in the Rich Center project and we're encouraged by her ability to pick up and build upon Shea's groundwork there.  Thanks, Sam, and welcome to the CBC family!

Vista Del Mar
Los Angeles, CA

We launched a pilot project in late January at Vista Del Mar, a large, longstanding service center for disabled and underserved children and youth in Los Angeles, CA.  For this project, we're using a new curriculum called Contemporary Urban Percussion (CUP) - a "bucket drumming" program that highlights music and language skills.  This project is funded by a grant from The Seattle Foundation and supported by the Vic Firth Company ( Everything looks good since the start-up and we hope to share more in our next web update and newsletter.

CBC receives slow-but-steady email inquiries from our website as various folks contact us with questions and interests in bringing music to young children and those with special needs.  One recent contact came from a special educator interesed in working with CBC to begin a project in Columbia, SC.  We've had two informative conference calls and several email exchanges with her and will wait to see if a project comes together there.
We've enjoyed a series of emails and conference calls with Melissa Romanovich in recent months.  Melissa, a high school senior, is the founder and primary force behind "Musical Notes" - a truly wonderful, theatrically-oriented after school music program for New Jersey kids.  What makes this project especially noteworthy is that the program is run entirely by high school volunteers!  We've written about Musical Notes several times on our Facebook page and are genuinely honored to be developing an ongoing relationship with Melissa and her program.  We invite you to check out her program site at Musical Notes.

One of the most surprising and joyful events of our year, to date, was learning that CreativeBridge was selected to receive a year's worth of pro-bono work from the Clearpoint Agency - a public relations firm in San Diego, California.   Clearpoint Agency.
We're working with three amazing Clearpoint women - Rachel, Antonia & Beth - who have developed a year-long plan to help CBC become more knowledgeable, more focused, more connected and more successful, ultimately, in pursuit of our mission.  We've begun a series of information exchanges and regular conference calls with the Clearpoint folks and trust that our supporters and FB friends will "see" the results of their work as the year unfolds.  Needless to say, we are profoundly grateful for such high quality professional assistance.
And before we forget: Clearpoint has recently sent a survey to all of our CBC donors.  If you received that survey, please be sure to complete and return it.

Thursday, April 25th, 6-9 PM, The Fireplace
Our BIG news is that we're hosting our very first CBC fundraiser this year!  Titled "An Evening with Area Soul Bands of the 60s", we're gathering original members of the Jaggerz, Insights,  Hi Guys and Bellboys at The Fireplace Restaurant & Lounge in Poland OH, located at 2075 E. Western Reserve Road.  The Fireplace
From Cleveland to Pittsburgh; from Geneva-on-the-Lake to Morgantown, WV; from Akron/Canton to Dubois, PA; from Columbus to Buffalo, NY, folks in the greater Youngstown area travelled to all compass points in the late 60s and early 70s to see and hear these bands.
Our fundraising event will take place between 6-9 PM, and include a cash drawing and silent auction.  Donations to CBC will be requested at the door.  Come meet, mingle and share stories with original members of the soul bands that so many of us enjoyed years ago.  Music "from the day" will be provided by Carl Severino and who knows - maybe we'll have some impromptu vocals from the band members themselves!
Please plan to join us during the evening of Thursday, April 25th at The Fireplace, and bring your friends.  We'll be posting a final list of auction items on our Facebook page in the coming weeks, so be sure and "friend" us there.  We will also be updating details about the event on our website at News-Soul Night Info.  Feel free to contact Linda Wellendorf with any further questions you may have (, 330.518.5872).
If you can't join us but wish to donate to this fundraising effort, click here DONATE.
We hope to see everyone there!
That about wraps it up for now.   2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for CBC, filled with a lot of  "firsts" - the new CUP curriculum, a new (free!) PR campaign and our first-ever fundraiser to name a few.  As always, we realize we couldn't have come this far without the generosity and support of all of you and remain sincerely grateful for your interest and friendship.  We'll be back to visit you again in the summer!
Until then,
Bill Bodine,
Dan Marshall
