Meet Vanessa Stricker--Administrative Assistant--Missions

Kevin White, our Executive Director, has encouraged me to write and share with you.  I started working for the Convention last November.  I'm Vanessa Stricker and it is so great to be a part of this exciting adventure for Nevada.  We have a wonderful new team at Nevada Baptist Convention and we are dedicated to the expansion of God's Kingdom. We are dedicated to the work of planting churches in Nevada and to affirming and encouraging church planters and pastors in Nevada as well.  Ryan Jones is our new State Director of Missions and I have the awesome job of being his assistant.  That means I also have the pleasure of assisting and helping you as we work together.  We seek to build up and encourage you.  We want you to know that you are prayed for.  We are meeting together to pray for Nevada, to lift you up in prayer and to ask for wisdom from God.  I've had a chance to talk with a few of you and to learn how we can pray for you.  Thank you for sharing.  Thank you, also for letting us know how God has answered your prayers.  For those of you who send in monthly updates, I feel like I already know you.  It will be great to meet you face to face!  Let me know what you need.  I want you to feel comfortable with the idea that this office cares and that we want to know you.

As changes come, I encourage you as Paul encouraged the church at Philippi to "reach forward to what lies ahead."  Philippians 3:13-14 says "Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

There is no better place to be than a place where there is excitement about the future!

Looking forward to serving Christ with you,

Vanessa Stricker

God is leading Tom Elliff to leave IMB

By Diana Chandler
Feb 27, 2014

AUSTIN, Texas (BP) -- IMB President Tom Elliff asked the mission agency's trustees to begin searching for his successor because the Lord told him during prayer that it was the best way to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership, Elliff said in a teleconference with several state Baptist papers.

"[God's] telling me that this is the time to leave," he said Wednesday (Feb. 26), "and that if I will obey Him and ask the Board of Trustees to appoint a search team ... that is the surest way to ensure a smooth transition.

"Not every entity has gone through that kind of a process, and sometimes things go along with fits and starts. But we've got so many personnel on the field, they don't need that. They need a sure vision. They need sure communication. They don't need to feel at any moment that there's a lack of leadership."

Elliff has no timeline for his departure, but in speaking to the board at its Feb. 25-26 meeting in Austin, Texas, he asked that the search begin immediately. The last search, he said during the teleconference, took about a year and a half.

GGBTS Spring 2014 President Convocation

President's Convocation Spring 2014

Dr. Jeff Iorg

Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary

By Phyllis Evans, director of communications

(Mill Valley, CA - February 2014)   "Experience often determines perspective and perspective often shapes attitude," said President Jeff Iorg during his spring 2014 Convocation address. "It is easy to take for granted the opportunity God has given us to be students of the Word of God. In this message I want to shape your attitude about the importance of the Bible in your life."

While preaching at the Mill Valley campus of Golden Gate Seminary, Iorg brought a strong exhortation to seminarians from James 1:19-25. He challenged students, "to be people who not only have access to the Word of God, but people who are committed to hearing and obeying the Word."   When this choice is made, Iorg assured students "you will experience the blessing that can only come from living under the authority of God's Word."
