The "Facing Our Future" program was attended by over 150 members of the business community. The event was held at the Holiday Inn - Manitowoc and included keynote speaker Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch.

Kurt Bauer, President of WI Manufacturers & Commerce, presented "The Future Wisconsin Project"; Angela Damiani, President of NEWaukee, presented "The Millennial Movement"; Shannon Full, Executive Director of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, presented "The Talent Upload Program"; Ann Franz, Director of NEW Manufacturing Alliance, presented "The Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance"; and Laura Wiegert and Carrie Penovich, Stronger Together Manitowoc County committee leaders, presented the Manitowoc County Perception Survey Summary. There was also a panel discussion with Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley; Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels; Progress Lakeshore Executive Director Peter Wills; Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer; and The Chamber of Manitowoc County Executive Director Karen Nichols.

An action item from this event will include The Chamber Board using the information presented as part of their Strategic Plan for 2017.  In addition, Stronger Together Manitowoc County will be focusing what was brought forward from the survey results.  If you would like to get involved, click here to register for the next meeting.

Overtime Rule Halted

In a surprise move, U.S. District Judge Mazzant halted the overtime rule that President Obama's Labor Department issued earlier this year. The new rule was to go into effect on December 1 and would have more than doubled the level at which employees are exempt from overtime pay from $23,660 to $47,476. Industry groups and 21 states, including Wisconsin, had sued to stop the rule. While the news is welcome, it also leaves employers in an uncertain position. Read more...

DWD Awarded $5 Million Federal Grant to Enhance Apprenticeship

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has been awarded a $5 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to enhance the agency's already leading-edge apprenticeship program.

"Wisconsin is on the forefront of talent development initiatives, including our nationally recognized, first-in-the-nation Registered Apprenticeship program," Secretary Newson said. "This grant will expand skills training for some 1,500 workers in occupations that are in demand by employers, taking our Registered Apprenticeship program to a new level and moving Wisconsin's economy forward."

"Apprenticeship is such a fantastic way for people to get into high-growth, high-wage careers," Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) President Morna Foy said. "This grant is affirmation of the great work being done here in Wisconsin to expand these opportunities."  Read More...

The Chamber of Manitowoc County Health and Wellness Center opens March 1, 2017!

We are excited to provide convenient, one-stop health and wellness benefits to help people proactively engage in healthy behaviors.

The Chamber of Manitowoc County Health and Wellness Center will be open to all Chamber members, their employees and employees' families. Services offered include primary, urgent, and preventative care; as well as physical therapy, wellness coaching, and emotional health counseling. 

Attend a free informational session to learn how you and your employees can benefit from this new health service.

Pursuant to the Bylaws of The Chamber of Manitowoc County, the following individual (s) have been nominated by The Chamber Board Governance Committee to be Re-Nominated for Subsequent Terms:

Additional names of candidates for Director may be nominated by a petition bearing the genuine signatures of at least twenty-five qualified members of The Chamber. Such petition shall be filed with the Board Governance Committee within fifteen days after receipt of this Notice.
 
If no petition is filed within the fifteen-day period, nominations shall be closed and the candidates identified above shall be declared to be elected by the Board of Directors at its next meeting with an effective date of January 1, 2017. If a petition shall present additional candidates, elections shall be conducted in accordance with the Bylaws.
