Saturday, September 21st, 7:30pm - "Live on the Square: Beaker Brothers Band" - Fairfield Square
|
Live on the Square wraps up its 2013 season with the return of The Beaker Brothers Band to Fairfield's Central Park. The Beaker Brothers bring their blues/rock infused sound to town and is the perfect wrap up to a fun filled Kids Day celebration. The Beaker Brothers Band cut their teeth on the music of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead, and is still gnawing on it. This isn't a nostalgia act or a tribute show; they play music that has been in our heads and our hearts since we first heard it. This is not your father's rock band. No, wait, maybe it is. Anyway, we're sure you're gonna dig it. Live on the Square is sponsored in part by: The City of Fairfield, The Fairfield CVB and KMCD/Classic 96.

Sunday, September 22nd, 3:44pm -Fall Equinox
|

The change from summer to fall is a period of time called Ritu Sandhi in ayurveda. It refers to the gap between seasons. This is a delicate time for the digestion, because the doshas are fluctuating and digestive capacity can also waver. This time of fluctuation provides a natural opportunity to cleanse the body, and ayurveda suggests that we make good use of the natural tendency of the body to cleanse itself. Maharishi Ayurveda recommends favoring lighter, warmer foods and skipping heavier foods during the few weeks when one season is changing into another. An easy-to-digest, purifying diet is recommended during this time.
You may find that delicious, hot vegetarian soups (like those found in the MUM Cafe), more hot liquids, and more cooked foods with less oil are more agreeable to your stomach. Dhal soups, rice, and cooked vegetables are well suited to this cleansing period.

The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center presents "The Abrams Brothers" on
Sunday, September 22nd at 7:30pm
The Abrams Brothers, John, James and cousin Elijah, skillfully combine the music of their roots with their own distinct sound. It's a combination of bluegrass, country and folk-rock that's had the Canadian festival circuit up in arms over their potential, and the rest are catching on! The brothers are fourth-generation musicians (guitar, violin, bass) with musical roots reaching back to their great-grandparents. Despite their age (early 20s), veteran is certainly not a word out of reach given their credits and the fact that they have been performing and touring together for almost a decade.
