 Dear Colleagues:
In just 12 days, we will make one of the greatest technological leaps in the history of our college.  After more than a year and a half of planning, meeting, decision making, equipment installation, and training, on January 19th we will go live with our new electronic health record -- axiUm.

As I've walked through the clinics this week, many employees have told me they're looking forward to all the new opportunities axiUm will offer us, but at the same time they let me know they're somewhat anxious about all the unknowns that lie ahead. In a conversation I had with one of our frontline staff members, she summed it up nicely by saying, "I'm so excited, but I'm also a little nervous!"

Although there are many ways of measuring all that has been done to get us here, the following facts underscore the magnitude of our accomplishments:

- 168,000 patient records converted from Windent to axiUm
- 16 task forces formed with 58 students, staff, and faculty contributing
- one project manager and one axiUm support manager hired
- college-wide computer network infrastructure upgraded
- keyboards, monitors, and PCs installed in 220 operatories
- axiUm software purchased and company support personnel contracted
- approximately two miles of network cable strung throughout the college
- two computer training facilities created and equipped
- more than 650 students, staff, and faculty trained

To the hundreds of you in our college community who have taken on this additional task, we are grateful for your efforts above and beyond. The time and energy you have expended will immediately affect almost every aspect of our clinical operations by benefiting our patient care, enhancing our educational programs, and improving our ability to make and evaluate treatment-related decisions. In the long run, this technological upgrade will allow us to capitalize on the most recent advances in health service delivery by helping to make our college a destination of choice for patients, students, staff, and faculty.

As we make this technological leap together, may the force be with us!
