First Thursday College of Dentistry News

Message from the Dean

Dear Colleagues,

We're only three days into 2013 and I can already see we have quite a year ahead of us. In addition to the usual expectations a new year brings, we've got some exciting and challenging times coming our way!

On the upside, we've hired a number of new staff and faculty, and we're going to continue to bring more on board. It will seem as if there's a new member of our college community every couple of weeks for the next few months. And, mark my words, these will be people who benefit and enhance the programs, clinics, labs, and operations throughout our college. We spent the past year searching for outstanding staff and faculty to join us in our mission, and I can't wait for everyone to meet them and get to work with them.

This year, facing us head-on are some uncertainties in our state and national economic situations. In addition to the impact the economy has on the average patient who comes to our clinics for care, we're significantly dependent on both state and federal dollars to run our college. Reducing either or both of these funding sources is a real possibility, and it's something we have to prepare for.

Even with those potential issues taken into consideration, there are many other great things in store for us in 2013, and we need to take advantage of every opportunity. We need this to be a year in which we make even greater strides in converging our energies and commitment toward helping each other and moving our college forward. From what I saw this past year, I know we have it in us.

Next week, I'm giving my first quarterly update of this new year. As with previous sessions, we've scheduled separate meeting times for students, staff and faculty, and I hope you'll be able to attend one of them. I'm excited to tell you about all the things that are happening in our college so that together we can look forward to all that 2013 has in store for us!

Happy New Year!

12th Avenue Garage Now Open

The 12th Avenue Parking Garage on the Wexner Medical Center campus reopened January 1, 2013, after being closed the last six months for restoration and maintenance.

Ohio State faculty and staff can park in the garage after 4 p.m. with their parking permits.

With the reopening of the garage, a new payment process is now in place for Wexner Medical Center customers, visitors, or those without parking permits.

The new payment process, called "pay on foot," uses technology that allows customers to pay their parking fees before getting into their cars to exit the garage, which allows vehicles to leave the garage faster and more efficiently.

To find out more about the "pay on foot" option, or for more 12th Avenue Garage  information, please visit www.campusparc.com.
