Mentors Needed

I'd like to recruit a group of Birmingham area dentists who would be willing to serve as mentors for UAB pre-dental students.  We have a very strong (more than 40) pre-dental society and many of them have requested shadowing opportunities and the chance to chat with practicing dentists about their career choice.  It's a tough  world out there - our entering class GPA was better than 3.8 last year.  If you would be willing to provide encouragement and advice for these young people, and allow them to observe you in your practice, please contact me via email.

Update on progress of study ideas submitted to The National Dental PBRN

A total of 34 study concepts have been submitted to the nation's network since May 2012. This news item provides an overview about this flurry of activity and the status of these study concepts. The flow chart below depicts an abridged version of the various steps in the network's study development process. Of the 34 study concepts submitted, 18 have been reviewed by the Executive Committee already. Of these 18, three are still under consideration by the Executive Committee and the Committee has approved eight and rejected seven. Of the eight approved by the Executive Committee, seven have been submitted to the NIDCR Clinical Studies Group (CSG), three of which have been approved, two have been rejected, and two are still under consideration. One study, having to do with the barriers and facilitators to rubber dam use during root canal treatment, has already received Study Team approval by the NIDCR CSG, as well as approval of the full protocol by the Executive Committee. Some of the study concept ideas that have been approved by the Executive Committee, but which are still in the later stages of development, include those having to do with suspicious occlusal caries lesions, patterns of communication about clinical evidence among dentists, a cracked teeth registry, a study about health outcomes of diabetes screening, and a study about patient satisfaction.

The nation's network continues to be very active in developing new studies!
