Thomas Day: Master Craftsman and Free Man of Color opens to the public today at the Renwick Gallery. Day was a free African American who owned and operated one of North Carolina's most successful cabinet shops prior to the Civil War. Beginning in the 1820s, he produced fine furniture for prominent citizens, and was noted for both designing interior spaces and the furnishings. The exhibition presents items created in his shop, as well as photographs of his architectural work.

A slideshow of works from the exhibition is available on our website, photos of the galleries are posted to Flickr, and a video showing time-lapse, behind-the-scenes footage during installation is on our YouTube channel.
