Luce Unplugged
Ms. Fridrich
January 6 @ 1:30 p.m.
Join us for a staff-led art talk, followed by a musical performance by Ms. Fridrich. Singer, song-writer, and pianist Sarah Fridrich and drummer Kirk Kubicek make up the duo whose indie-pop, jazz influenced sound is reminiscent of Regina Spektor and Fiona Apple but with a sound completely their own.

Steinway Series
Quynh Nguyen
Vietnamese-American pianist Quynh Nguyen presents a program of masterworks by Beethoven, Chopin, Messiaen, and Ravel. Nguyen is on the faculty at Hunter College and the International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York City. Free tickets for Steinway Series concerts are available in the museum's G Street lobby at 2:30 p.m.

Axelrod String Quartet
January 13 @ 6:30 p.m. (lecture), 7:30 p.m. (concert) at the Renwick Gallery
The Axelrod String Quartet continues its Haydn survey with Op. 71, No. 2, the complements of the Op. 74 set heard last year. In January, the Ĉolus Quartet, graduate fellowship quartet at the University of Maryland's School of Music, will join the Axelrod members for a concert that will unite all eight Stradivarius and Amati instruments.
One hour prior to this program, Kenneth Slowik, SCMS artistic director and recipient of the 2011 Smithsonian Secretary's Distinguished Research Lecture Award, will provide a pre-concert talk, shedding light on the glorious music and the life and times of the featured composers. Take 5! with Elijah Jamal Balbed
January 24 @ 5 p.m.
In tribute to Wayne Shorter's 80th birthday year, Elijah Jamal Balbed, saxophonist and the Washington City Paper's 2010 Best New Jazz Musician, showcases Shorter's early works. The group features Alex Norris on trumpet, Samir Moulay on guitar, Harry Appelman on piano, Herman Burney on bass, and Billy Williams on drums.
