Hidden Brook Farm Newsletter                      December, 2015  |  Vol. 5  |  No. 9
In 2015, Hidden Brook had 48 stakes horses and 34 stakes winners. Thirteen of those winners were graded stakes winners, and 3 of those won a Grade-1 race.

Kicking off the year was Night Prowler, who won the G3 Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park in January. In April, the three-year-old won the G3 Transylvania stakes, marking his second stakes win of the year.

Night Prowler now holds a career record of 8-3-1-2. By Giant's Causeway and out of Mary's Follies, he was foaled and raised on Hidden Brook for Paul Pompa Jr.

Finnegans Wake
Six-year-old Finnegans Wake, who was raised at Hidden Brook for breeder Jerry Crawford, won three graded stakes races in 2015. First there was his winning effort in the G2 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita, finishing the one and one-eighth mile turf race in 1:48.38.

In his very next race, he won the G2 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita, beating a field of eight by one length and finishing the 1 ¼ mile race in 2:00.88.

He then went on to win the G1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs. He finished the 1 1/8-mile race in 1:47.24.

In 2015, Finnegans Wake had a record of 7-3-1-1 with 3 stakes wins and one stakes placed. He finished in-the-money in all 7 races and ended the year with earnings of $720,600. He has lifetime earnings of $1,545,975.

Two-year-old Riker nabbed three stakes wins in 2015. After winning his first career start in a Maiden Special Weight, he went on to win the Colin Stakes at Woodbine in his second start.

In his third start, he won the Swynford Stakes, finishing the seven-furlong race in 1:23.39, 2 ½ lengths ahead of the field.

In October, Riker won the G3 Grey Stakes at Woodbine, bringing his record to 4-4-0-0. He finished out the year 5-4-0-0, with earnings of $209,049. Hidden Brook recommended the purchase of Riker to owner Tucci Stables this past April, where he was bought for $60,000. He is by Include and out of Desviacion.

Merry Meadow
In her first start as a five-year-old, Merry Meadow overcame a bump at the start to win the G3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes at Gulfstream Park by 9 ½ lengths, finishing the 6 ½ furlong race in 1:17.97. This marked her third stakes win in a row, having finished off 2014 with wins in the Sky Beauty Stakes and the G3 Sugar Swirl Stakes.

In July of 2015, she won her fifth career stakes race, taking home the top prize in the G2 Princess Rooney Stakes while finishing the six-furlong race in an impressive 1:09.29. Merry Meadow was born and raised at Hidden Brook for breeders David Howe and William Parsons. She has earned $852,800 throughout her career.

Golden Lad, who was foaled and raised on Hidden Brook for E. Paul Robsham Stables, held a record of 5-3-0-0 in 2015, with all three wins coming in stakes races. On Valentine's Day, the five-year-old won the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn Park, marking the second stakes win of his career. In 2014 he won the G3 Razorback Handicap by 6 ¾ lengths.

In May he won the Mountainview Handicap and in June he won the G3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap. He holds a lifetime record of 15-8-2-0, with a bankroll of $645,320. He is by Medaglia d'Oro and out of Broadway Gold.

Three-year-old Firing Line, who was raised on Hidden Brook and sold by them as a yearling in 2013, won the $800,000 G3 Sunland Derby while setting a new track record, finishing the one and one-eighth mile race in 1:47.39. His new track record was good enough for a 14-length win, which added $400,000 to his bankroll. Earlier in the year he finished 2nd in the G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes.

Firing Line went on to compete in the G1 Kentucky Derby, finishing 2nd by just one length to ultimate Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. In 2015 alone, he earned $830,000.

Dads Caps
In April, five-year-old Dads Caps was able to defend his title in the G1 Carter Handicap, winning it for the second consecutive year. He won the seven-furlong race by 1 ½ lengths, finishing in 1:23.64.

The win added $240,000 to his bankroll. He has a lifetime record of 19-5-7-3 and has amassed over $1 million during that span.  He was born and raised on Hidden Brook for breeder and owner Vince Scuderi.

Four-year-old Ball Dancing, who was foaled and raised at Hidden Brook for breeders Kirk Wycoff and Deby Wycoff, and sold by Hidden Brook as a yearling, won the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland by 2 ½ lengths.

She currently holds a career record of 10-4-3-0, with lifetime earnings totaling $719,282.

Coach Inge, in his first career stakes race, took home the $400,000 G2 Brooklyn Invitational at Belmont Park, winning by a neck after overcoming a bump at the start. He finished the 1 ½ mile dirt race in an impressive 2:27.17.

Later in the year, he finished 3rd in the G2 Suburban Handicap and finished 2nd in the G1 Woodward Stakes. He has a lifetime record of 13-4-3-2, with earnings of $606,177.

The four-year-old was foaled and raised at Hidden Brook for breeder Paul Pompa Jr. He is by Big Brown and out of Touch Too Much (by Holy Bull).

Tiz Shea D, who was consigned by Hidden Brook and raised on the farm, closed out his first year of racing with a win in the $500,000 G2 Indiana Derby, marking his first stakes win and bringing his record to 6-2-2-0.

He finished the one and one-sixteenth of a mile race in 1:43.02, beating second-place finisher and Ohio Derby winner Mr. Z by 1 ¼ lengths.

Tiz Shea D earned $460,056 in 2015 alone. He is by Tiznow and out of Ender's Sister. He was bred by Green Lantern Stables.

Bailoutbobby
Bailoutbobby
dominated in the G2 Marathon Stakes at Keeneland, winning the 1 ¾ mile race by 5 ¼ lengths while setting a track record of 2:56.75. The five-year-old was born and raised on Hidden Brook for breeders Kirk Wycoff and Deby Wycoff, and sold by Hidden Brook as a yearling at the 2011 Keeneland January Sale. He is by Mizzen Mast and out of Ride Her Out.

We once again would like to thank all of our owners, buyers, boarders, partners, and staff for a terrific 2015. We wish you all a prosperous and happy new year!

The Hidden Brook partnership filly Miss Lech broke her maiden on January 29th in a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park. She finished 1 ½ lengths ahead of the field in a 7 ½ furlong race, with a final time of 1:28.99. She is by Giant's Causeway and is a half sister to G2 stakes winner Guilt Trip.

She was part Hidden Brook's consignment at the Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale in February, where she sold for $115,000.

Catch My Drift
Partnership filly Catch My Drift became a stakes winner on August 24th after an impressive win in the Summer Colony Stakes at Saratoga. She came close to earning her first black-type win in 2014 when she finished 2nd in the G3 Turnback the Alarm Stakes by just a half-length.

The win in the Summer Colony Stakes brought the four-year-old's record to 9-4-2-0, with earnings totaling $240,540. She beat the 6/5 favorite Tiz So Sweet by 6 ¼ lengths while earning a 94 Beyer figure and 7+ Ragozin number. She finished the 1 1/8 mile race in 1:48.72.

Catch My Drift closed out the year with a 3rd place finish in the G1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park, brining her lifetime record up to 10-4-2-1.

Hidden Brook sold the four-year-old at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton November Sale, bringing an exciting and rewarding racing partnership to a close. They first purchased the filly as a yearling in 2012 for $95,000. She went on to earn $280,540 in her 10-race career. Hidden Brook sold her for $400,000 to WinStar Farm.

Another Hidden Brook partnership filly, Neck of the Moon, finished off 2015 with a record of 6-2-1-2, including a 3rdplace finish in the Ticonderoga Stakes at Belmont Park, adding black type to her resume.

She now has a record of 15-4-3-5 and a bankroll of $271,245. She was originally purchased by Hidden Brook as a yearling for $60,000.

Neck of the Moon will race again in 2016 for the partnership and has resumed training at Hidden Brook South after a brief freshening. She is by More Than Ready and out of Cotopaxi.

Earlier in the year, Hidden Brook officially acquired the Robert N. Scanlon training center in Williston, Florida, in a joint property venture with trainer Randy Bradshaw. The 125-acre facility has acted as the main headquarters for Hidden Brook's breaking and training operation led by founding partner Mark Roberts.

Hidden Brook Racing ended 2015 with race earnings, sales, total revenue, and average earnings per start all surpassing the marks set in 2014. In just its fifth year, the Hidden Brook Racing roster had its total revenue surpass the one-million-dollar mark with a total of $1,148,341 earned in 2015.

Since it began in 2010, Hidden Brook Racing has generated $2,564,207 in race earnings, with an overall win percentage of 18%, and an in-the-money percentage of 50%. With sales over $2,500,000, Hidden Brook's total revenue has surpassed $5,000,000.

With the continued success of Hidden Brook's racing partnerships, we would like to extend the opportunity to anyone who would like to take part in one in the future. The Hidden Brook team is excited about the prospect of buying some promising two-year-olds and yearlings in 2016. If you're interested in joining a racing or pinhooking partnership with Hidden Brook, please feel free to contact Dan Hall.

Of top 150 North American consignors in 2015, Hidden Brook ranked 20th, grossing close to $10 million with their 136 horses sold, for an average of $70,094 per sale.

The market at the Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale in February showed declines in overall gross, average, and median. Total sales fell right around $10.5 million, down from 2014's $13.5 million, with the average hip price falling from $33,319 to $26,012.

Despite all this, Hidden Brook was able to manage success, finishing out the sale with the highest selling horse and shattering the price of last year's sale topper. Rose to Gold, a multiple graded stakes winner who was sold by Hidden Brook as a broodmare prospect, fetched $450,000, to be the highlight of the two-day sale.

Hidden Brook sold all 10 of their offerings in a sale that was marked by a 17.6% buyback rate.

Other highlights for Hidden Brook include Hip #600, Every Way, selling for $150,000, and Hip #235, Miss Lech, who sold for $115,000.

Hidden Brook's consignment at the March OBS sale -- their first two-year-old pinhooking consignment -- consisted of Hip no. 365, a chestnut filly by First Samurai, out of Raw Nerve.

The final selling price of $230,000 put the cap on a successful pinhooking venture, as Hidden Brook purchased the filly as a yearling for $85,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton October Sale. She was purchased by agent Jim Schenck on behalf of Midwest Thoroughbreds.

The $230,000 price tag was well-above the sale average of $169,193.

Here's a brief video highlighting Hidden Brook's consignment at the 2015 March OBS Sale:

OBS - March

After two grueling weeks of marching at the Keeneland September Sale and a careful observance of over four thousand horses, the Hidden Brook team managed to purchase five yearlings for their pinhooking partnership and two for their racing partnership. In addition to those purchases, Hidden Brook's consignment was able to gross $2,939,200 over the course of the sale.

Selling highlights for Hidden Brook included Hip #'s 474 and 622, who each sold for $420,000 and $450,000, respectively. Other notable prices from the consignment included one for $225,000, one for $270,000, and another for $225,000.

Despite the Fasig-Tipton Fall Yearling Sale producing a 10% increase in RNA's and a drop in both median selling price (down over $3,000 from 2014) and average price (down 4.1%), Hidden Brook was still able to hit some highs.

The topper for Hidden Brook was Hip no. 662, a colt by Street Boss, which they sold for $250,000. Other highlights included a Majesticperfection colt selling for $150,000.

At the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, Hidden Brook nearly broke the $1 million mark with their top sale of the day. Hip no. 260, Broadway Gold, sold for $950,000. Hidden Brook also sold Boat's Ghost for $400,000.

During the Fasig-Tipton November Sale, Hidden Brook managed to sell two talented race horses for a total of $880,000.

The first, Merry Meadow, a four-time graded stakes winner who brought in $852,800 throughout her career, sold for $480,000 to WinStar Farm. Merry Meadow was foaled and raised at Hidden Brook for breeders David Howe and William Parsons.

Catch My Drift, a Hidden Brook partnership filly, sold for $400,000 and was also purchased by WinStar Farm.

Hidden Brook would like to thank all of our owners and purchasers, as well as all of the Hidden Brook team who helped run our consignments throughout the year.
