HIDDEN BROOK RACING
PARTNERSHIP UPDATES

Hidden Brook partnership filly Catch My Drift has now won three of her four career starts after an impressive win at Parx on September 20.

It was certainly an eventful trip for the three-year-old. After being bumped and steadied at the start, she was able to gradually advance between horses, finding her way to the rail and holding strong. Coming into the final turn, she lacked room along the rail to maneuver, so she angled out in the stretch, straightened, and drew away for the win.

By Pioneer of the Nile and out of Drift to the Lead, Catch My Drift won the race going away with authority, crossing the finish line 2 ¼ lengths ahead of the pack. She finished the one mile and seventy yard contest on dirt with a respectable time of 1:41.65.

Hidden Brook purchased her as a yearling at the 2012 Keeneland September Sale for $95,000.

The $55,200 winnings at Parx bring her earnings to $108,540 throughout her first four career starts.

She is trained by Chad Brown.

Filly by Harlan's Holiday

In other Hidden Brook partnership news, the team purchased six yearlings at the Keeneland September Sale: three for their pinhooking partnership, and three for their racing partnership.

The pinhook yearlings consist of two fillies and one colt. The first filly, hip #2191, is by Harlan's Holiday and out of a young stakes placed Quiet American mare. She was purchased for $160,000.

The second filly, hip #2191, was purchased for $80,000. She is by champion sprinter and first crop sire Big Drama, and is the first foal out of a young Medaglia D'Oro mare.

The colt, hip #2887, was purchased for $47,000. He is from the first crop of champion Cape Blanco and out of a graded stakes producing Irish River mare.

Colt by Street Sense

All three came out of the sale in good order and have settled in Ocala, where they have begun the breaking process.

The three racing partnership horses also consist of two fillies and a colt. The first of these that Hidden Brook purchased was Hip #414, a colt by Street Sense and out of the young stakes winning mare Yes She's A Lady. The colt was purchased for $150,000.

Then there's Hip #1061, a filly by Stormy Atlantic and out of the stakes winning Quiet American, purchased by Hidden Brook for $135,000.

Hidden Brook's third and final racing partnership purchase was Hip #2337 for $100,000, an Artie Schiller filly out of a young stakes winning mare, Glorificamus, who has produced a graded stakes horse.

The Hidden Brook team is excited for the potential they see in these young horses, and they look forward to watching them grow into racehorses over the coming years.

If anyone is interested in joining a future racing or pinhook partnership with Hidden Brook, please feel free to contact Dan Hall for more information: Danhall@hiddenbrookfarmky.com.

HIDDEN BROOK SUCCESS AT
KEENELAND SEPTEMBER

After two grueling weeks of marching at the Keeneland September Sale and a careful observance of over four thousand horses, we're thrilled to say that it was well worth the effort.

In addition to purchasing six yearlings for our racing partnership, we had total sales of $5,437,000, for an average of $79,995 per hip number we sold.

Only 17% of our horses did not attain their reserve, which was well below the 21% of RNA's during the entirety of the sale.

We sold nineteen of our yearlings for $100,000 or more, with our biggest sales going to hip #567, a Malibu Moon filly owned and bred by Hurricane Hills that sold for $450,000, and hip #386, a Bernardini filly owned and bred by Ocala Stud and Darley that sold for $425,000.

We would like to take this moment to thank all of our owners and purchasers, as well as all of the Hidden Brook team who helped run our consignment. It couldn't have been done without you, and for that we are endlessly grateful.

HIDDEN BROOK GRADUATES
IN SEPTEMBER

Ball Dancing
, a three-year old filly born and raised at Hidden Brook, added more black type to her record with a win in the G2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park on September 13th.

Hidden Brook sold the filly as a yearling in January 2012 for breeders Kirk Wycoff and Deby Wycoff.

Ball Dancing began the race three-wide near the back of the pack and inched her way up, battling hard in the stretch and rallying a furlong out, winning by a half length after a hard fought head-to-head battle with the runner up.

With this victory, she brought her career record to 6-3-1-0 and added $300,000 in winnings to her bankroll.

Balooga Bull

With his win on September 13th, Balooga Bull has now won three stakes races in a row, bringing his total career stakes wins to eight.

His win in the Gold Cup Stakes at Assiniboia marks his sixteenth victory in twenty-one career starts.

Balooga Bull was sold by Hidden Brook as a yearling for breeders Bernard Vertuca and Michelle Vertuca.

The Tapit filly White Rose won the first stakes race of her career on September 24th, earning $118,280 for her winning efforts in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon Stakes.

Hidden Brook purchased White Rose as a two-year-old in April of 2012 for owners Jake Ballis and Rashard Lewis.

Cigar Street

After stealing a victory in the Homecoming Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs on September 27th, Cigar Street has now won five of his eight career starts, for a record of 8-5-1-0.

This marks Cigar Street's second career stakes win. Last year the five-year-old added his first bit of black type with a win in the G3 Skip Away Stakes at Gulfstream.

With his win at Churchill he added $83,170 to his earnings, and finished the one and 1/8 mile race in 1:49 and change, 1 ¾ lengths ahead of the rest.

Cigar Street was purchased by Hidden Brook as a two-year-old, also for owners Jake Ballis and Rashard Lewis. He is trained by Bill Mott.

Dad's Cap, who was born and raised on Hidden Brook for breeder and owner Vince Scuderi, finished 2nd in the G1 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park on September 27th, losing out by just a neck and beating out the favorite, who finished 3rd.

The second-place finish earned him $100,000 and improved his record to 13-4-5-1, with career earnings nearing $700,000.

This past April, the four-year-old colt won the G1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct.

By Discreet Cat, out of Seeking the Silver, Dad's Cap is trained by Rudy Rodriguez.

St. Albans Boy, coming off two straight wins, finished third in the Laurel Turf Cup Stakes at Laurel Park on September 27th, improving his record to 9-3-0-1.

Hidden Brook sold St. Albans Boy for $160,000 as a yearling for breeders Anne Wrenn Poulson and Hare Forest Farm.

Also finishing in third in a stakes race was Dannhauser, who was purchased by Hidden Brook in 2009 as a yearling for Paul Pompa Jr. at the price of $270,000. Dannhauser was then sold again as a two-year-old for $350,000.

His third place finish on September 13th came in the Bert Allen Stakes at Laurel Park.

Finnegan's Wake

Finnegans Wake, raised at Hidden Brook for breeder Jerry Crawford, finished 2nd in the G2 John Henry Turf Championship Stakes at Santa Anita on September 28th. The five-year-old now has career earnings of $675,375.

In just his second career start, two-year-old Offering Plan finished 3rd in the G3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park, bringing his career record to 2-1-0-1 and adding $40,000 to his earnings.

Offering Plan was sold by Hidden Brook as a yearling for Chris Swann.

PARTNER PROFILE... Mark Roberts

Our clients have been very generous in sharing their

lives with us during our "Inside the Winner's Circle"

Q&A's for many newsletters now, and we figured it's

time for the owners to return the favor. With the

"Partner Profile" questionnaire, the Hidden Brook

partners will answer a wide range of questions not

necessarily pertaining to the horse business, with the hopes

that we can catch a glimpse into their personalities and life

outside of the office.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Having a healthy and loving family and waking up everyday loving what I do.

What talent would you most like to have?

To be able to make people around me feel comfortable.

What is your current state of mind?

At peace. Nothing could bother me right now.

Did you have any odd jobs growing up?

From about the 7th grade to the middle of high school I worked in hay fields and put up tobacco in Kentucky.

What is your favorite quote or motto to live by?

One that Teddy Roosevelt said: "It's hard to fail, but worse to have never tried to succeed."

What is your greatest luxury?

My boat.

What are some of your hobbies?

Fishing, hunting, and backpacking. Though I don't get to do much of any of it these days.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Raising three respectful and caring children.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Procrastination.

What would you do if you weren't in the horse business?

I honestly don't know. I never thought about doing anything else.

What is something that is guaranteed to make you laugh?

The Three Stooges.

You recently started working with Hidden Brook's breaking and training operation in Florida. How has that been?

It's been really great. Really enjoying it. We're on target for our numbers being where we want them to be for our first year and we've had great support from our clients to start this endeavor. I also lost 21 pounds since I started, though I did gain some of it back during the Keeneland September Sale, but we won't get into that.

What makes Hidden Brook tick?

Above all, the five of us are great friends with great respect for each other, and all of us bring a little something different to the table. We all have our own different strong suits, but again, at the end of the day, we're all just great friends.

What was your first job in the horse business?

In college I worked for Hermitage Farm in Louisville for Warner Jones.

What are some of your favorite movies?

"McLintock", "Wedding Crashers", and "Casablanca".

What are some of your favorite books?

"The Da Vinci Code" is one. Another favorite, and you'll never have heard of this book, but it's called, "My Side of the Mountain." It's about this young boy that runs away and tries to live alone in the Catskill Mountains. I read it about nine times when I was in school.

What's your favorite thing about the horse business?

Watching young horses transform into racehorses, and just owning a good racehorse.
