Alpha Bettor continues Canadian dominance in G2 Autumn S.

With a thrilling last second surge to win the G2 Autumn Stakes at Woodbine, Alpha Bettor earned his third graded stakes win of the year and solidified his lead in Canada for Champion Older Male.

Breaking from post three in the mile-and-a-sixteenth event for three year olds and up, Alpha Bettor sat in mid-pack under regular rider Justin Stein through three quarters before making a sweeping move in the stretch.  Catching the front runner a step before the wire, Alpha Bettor proved victorious by a neck.

A 2010 Hidden Brook two-year-old purchase, the son of Alphabet Soup out of the Relaunch mare Scatter Buy, has earned $660,914 with eight wins, five seconds, and two thirds for owner Bulldog Racing and trainer Danny Vella.

Quality from the Start
Hidden Brook produces two 2013 Champion finalists!
November topped off an already robust year, in which the Hidden Brook program has set forth no less than 20 stakes winners, eight of those graded or group winners, and 38 stakes horses, with yet another month to go!  Adding to that impressive tally, two finalists for year-end Championships have emerged in Game On Dude and Alpha Bettor.

Hidden Brook's emphasis on quality has been apparent since the beginning; 2013 marks the ninth time in eight years that its graduates have been up for year-end honors. This year, the nominations cover the entire continent, with Game On Dude vying for Champion Older Male Eclipse honors in the United States, and Alpha Bettor favored to take home the Sovereign Award for Champion Older Male.

Game On Dude
Game On Dude has notched five graded stakes wins in seven starts this year, and while he didn't score in the Breeders' Cup Classic, he has dominated his division, winning in wire-to-wire fashion by daylight nearly every time. With 2013 earnings of $2,575,735, he has racked up an incredible 71% win rate this year, including wins in the G1 Santa Anita Handicap, the G1 Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap, and the G1 Pacific Classic.

Consigned by Hidden Brook as a yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale, Game On Dude is owned by Diamond Pride, LLC, the Lanni Family Trust, Mercedes Stable and Bernie Schiappa. He is trained by Bob Baffert. Throughout his prolific career, the "Dude" has amassed $5,707,893, 15 wins, six seconds and a third.

North of the border, Alpha Bettor heads the field for Canadian Champion Older Male, with three graded stakes wins in six starts, including the G2 Eclipse Stakes, the G3 Seagram Cup Stakes, which he also won in 2012, and the G2 Autumn Stakes, all at Woodbine.

In 2013, Alpha Bettor has earned $336,441 and has been in the top three finishers 83% of the time.  He ranks in the top 25 of all older males on dirt or all weather in North America by earnings.  Purchased as a two-year-old by Hidden Brook, Alpha Bettor is owned by Bulldog Racing and trained by Danny Vella.

Inside the WINNER'S CIRCLE
with Lisa Jones
Lisa Jones has been a client of Hidden Brook since September 2010.  She is the President/Owner of Shear Tech Steel and is currently involved in the Hidden Brook partnership that owns multiple graded stakes winner Pianist.

Born: Detroit, Michigan 1965
Residence: Temperance, Michigan
Family: Kierstyn 20, Kelsey 15, Gordon (significant other)
Education: University of Toledo, Business/Accounting graduate
Business: Shear Tech Steel, Toledo, Ohio

Tell us a little about your business: Shear Tech Steel is a processor and distributor of carbon steel materials, supplying mainly to automotive related companies.

When did you first become interested in horses?  I took riding lessons when I was eight, and my father bought me my first horse at the age of 13.

How did you become involved in horse racing?  I had horses for almost 40 years and competed on the hunter-jumper circuit. After my body said "no more" to everyday riding, I certainly had to find another horse related avenue. I bought a couple of nice mares suitable for breeding but had no luck racing the offspring at our now defunct Great Lakes Downs in Muskegon, Michigan.

What is the first race you can remember?  In 1988, I worked for Taylor Made and drove over to Louisville for my first Derby, where a filly by the name of Winning Colors romped the field!

How did you become connected with Hidden Brook?  I subscribe to the Blood-Horse and was looking to find a leg up on a potential racing partnership, and that's how I met Jack Brothers.  My first real racing experience was with the Adena Springs partnership group which owned Harlem Rocker.

How has the Hidden Brook experience been different? You can't ask for a better group of people to be involved with. Their vast knowledge of the racing industry, coupled with their ability to select future racehorses, has given me such excitement. Each and every person that I have met within the Hidden Brook operation has been friendly and we always have a great time when we are able to get together at the races to see one of our partnership horses perform.

Tell us about your favorite horse experience:
It's gotta be our little superstar - Pianist, winning the Gallorette at Pimlico. Having a new jock who's never ridden her and coming out on top, just shows how good of a horse you really have.

What would you tell
someone who was interested in getting involved in the sport? I would certainly recommend their first call be directed to the Hidden Brook operation. Dan Hall has always been available to respond to any questions and concerns.  I always receive updates on the horse's soundness the day after the race. The communication is an important aspect of this partnership and the health and well-being of the horse comes first.  It's just been an exciting ride!

What do you like best about the racing industry? The excitement of watching one of your horses come from behind, and winning a race!  We are not only a partnership in these racing ventures, but have developed long lasting friendships.  I also appreciate the efforts made to place these wonderful animals into second professions after their racing career has ended.

At which track would you most like to spend the day?
I've been told there are several beautiful tracks which I have yet to visit, but I love the action and location of Gulfstream Park.

Describe a perfect day for you?  Wearing my Kentucky Derby hat and cheering on one of my horses to be first at the finish line.

What was the best advise you have ever received?  A saying from my late father, Allan Bates: "It takes a lot of grapes to make a glass of wine."

Do you have a favorite
place to celebrate after a racing success?  We have an awesome Italian restaurant in Michigan called Angelo's Northwood Villa. They have a variety of imported wines, delicious food and a great atmosphere for toasting the win!

Are there any other hobbies or activities besides horse racing that you participate in to relax?  Gordon and I love traveling with our kids and when the fishing is good, a quick trip down to the Florida Keys is an absolute favorite!

Thank you Lisa Jones, for giving us a few minutes of your time inside the Winner's Circle.
