5 SWs in 3 Months

Graded SWs Roar Through March

March came in like a lion and went out like a lion. At least as far as Hidden Brook graduates are concerned.

Opening weekend saw yearling sale graduate Game On Dude win his tenth career Graded stakes, the $750,000 Santa Anita H. (G1). Consigned for breeder Adena Springs, Game On Dude has now earned over $3.7 million, and holds the best two Beyer Figures of the year. He is undefeated in 2013 for Hall of Famer Bob Baffert.

Closing weekend saw Cigar Street remain a perfect 3-for-3 under the tutelage of Hall of Famer Bill Mott, with a gutsy victory in the Skip Away H. (G3). The striking dark bay colt was purchased for $130,000 as a two-year-old in training on behalf of Jake Ballis. As his ownership connections include Miami Heat star Rashard Lewis, this colt has garnered national attention from the mainstream sports media.

Some 84 stakes winners - 35 Graded stakes winners - 136 stakes horses have now been purchased, sold, foaled, raised, and/or raced by Hidden Brook.

Partnership Updates

Two-Year-Old Fillies
Progressing Nicely

Two juvenile fillies purchased last fall for partnerships, are progressing forwardly toward their racing debuts, Dan Hall reports.

Canaryinacoalmine is by Classic winner Birdstone and out of multiple stakes winner Tappin For Gold, by Pleasant Tap. The attractive bay has breezed well, and appears to enjoy her time on the track. Birdstone produced Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird and Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird from his first crop, and this filly was conceived in the wake of that early success. She was the second highest-priced yearling filly of 2012 by her sire, and is a half sister to a multiple winner of $91,000, and a newly turned 3-year-old who recently ran second.

Catch My Drift is from the highly anticipated first crop of Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Pioneerof the Nile, the most accomplished son of Empire Maker at stud. A lovely dark bay filly - reminiscent of Empire Maker's champion daughter Royal Delta - Catch My Drift is the first foal from her dam, who won four races and over $121,000. Her next three dams are all multiple stakes producers, and two of the three are stakes winners as well.

Hidden Brook is still scouting the juvenile sales for potential partnership runners, and we welcome your participation in these exciting ventures. Team members will be on site at most of the remaining major sales: In April at Keeneland Selected (April 8) and OBS Open (April 22-25); In May, at Fasig Tipton Timonium (May 20-21). Call Dan Hall for details,

Inside the WINNER'S CIRCLE

with Alan Fahey

A popular feature for The HIDDEN BROOK TIMES is a Q&A with some of our valued clients. In an effort to better acquaint our clients with the Hidden Brook staff we thought we'd Shake it up every now and then, and feature some of our key employees. Broodmare
Manager Alan Fahey agreed to sit down with us this month, to give us a bėrd's eye view of his day to day activities at Hidden Brook

Born: Co. Kildare, Ireland
Residence: Hidden Brook Farm
Family: Married with a baby on the way
Education: Leaving Certificate

Alan, thank you for being our Contact person this month. Thank you for having me; this is a nice way to reach out to our clients.

How long have you been with Hidden Brook? I have been employed with Hidden Brook for six years.

What is your equine background? My family in Ireland is in the Thoroughbred business and I have worked with horses my entire life.

What got you started in the Thoroughbred industry?
I started by riding out for my father and uncles as a youth and working on Kildangan Stud for Darley Ireland.

Take us through a day--a Week even--in your shoes as Broodmare Manager. During the breeding season my weekly routine involves watching the horses come up in
the morning to make sure there are no soundness or health issues; organizing the workers for the daily schedule of vet work and farrier visits; daily monitoring of mares for cycling
and breeding; organizing the mares for vet work; working with the vet on any treatments; evaluating foal conformation; giving vaccinations and wormers; managing difficult  foalings; and ensuring all horses on the farm are receiving a high level of daily care and attention.

Are broodmares your specific passion? Yes, of all aspects of the Thoroughbred industry I find the broodmare and foalėng side of the business to be the most rewarding. To see foals that we have raised become successful as racehorses is a gratifying experience.

What drew you to Hidden Brook? I was attracted to Hidden Brook because I knew it to be up-and-comėng in the industry and was an excellent opportunity for me to be part of a farm that is always growing and striving to be better.

How has the Hidden Brook experience been different for you than any other experience? The management team at Hidden Brook is a group of proper horsemen with specific talents for each area ofthe Thoroughbred industry and this creates a superb level of knowledge and expertise that is not seen among many other farms.

Tell us about your own personal most exciting moment in the industry--special horse, Special connection...
The foundation of my interest in horses came from being involved as a youth with the success of one of my father's horses and sharing his happiness in those achievements. So I have to say that was a very special moment for me; that it created direction for my life.

What do you like to do outside of horses? My hobbies are playing the guitar and fishing.

Words you live by? I do not have a motto but my favorite phrase is "it's all a ball of mala".

Thank you Alan Fahey, for giving us a few minutes of your time inside the Winner's Circle.
