We had a lot of new plants in the garden center this year and I'd like to mention a few of my favorites. One of the standouts, was a 'Phlox 'Jeana'. The lavender-pink flower heads with their smaller flowers, look like stems of lilacs. It doesn't have a bit of mildew despite the humidity and doesn't need pinching to stay upright. I planted it in front of a pink anemone and the combination is perfect.

The rose-of-sharon continues to bloom into the end of summer. Its very easy to grow despite looking so tropical.

Sedum 'Dazzleberry' has dark, bluish leaves and rich, deep pink flowers. It doesn't 'melt' away like so many other dark-leaved sedums and it doesn't get leggy. In my rock garden, it stays compact and the pink flowers don't fade.
Symphoricarpos 'Candy' or coral berry has plump, candy-pink berries all along its stems. Its much showier than beauty berry and the flowers are more noticeable. The pink color looks fantastic in a bed with hydrangea, pennisetum 'Hamelyn' grasses and coneflowers.

You can limb up large shrubs like this beautybush to create a shady tunnel.

I'm always a sucker for a new daylily, but 'Flamingo Fantasy' is a true pink, even on cool mornings, with no peach whatsoever. It was a heavy bloomer and actually re-bloomed.

Fire and Ice--Orange trumpet vine and creamy hydrangea make a great combination.

This week, I'm once again, trying to eradicate Campanula 'Cherry bells from a bed of Iris 'Immortality'. The stems snap so easily, its almost impossible to dig it up, but loosening the soil with a pitch fork does help. I'm going to 'paint' a herbicide on any leaves that that are too close to any shrubs or desirable plants. And curse the day I ever planted it.
