Paul's Notes
This Saturday on Home and Backyard I am visiting a couple of homes in the Stroudsburg area.  They are part of a garden tour that is taking place this Saturday.
June marks  the beginning of our landscaping season. Typically we keep working all through the summer till the ground freezes. (End of November)  We specialize in plant design, installation or laying out plants for you to plant. We like to work locally!
Paul models the latest in bluebird houses---observation, horizontal, slant-front, and double observation. Put them up for the second brood!

The clematis looks amazing! We have over ten of the best varieties.

Clematis 'Rhapsody' is as blue as a clematis gets!

Clematis 'Violet Star' is a soft purple and white.

GARDEN CENTER---Another big shipment of plants arrived this week with many new varieties. We were finally able to get butterfly bushes in--- 'Black Knight' and 'White Profusion' are proven hardy for this area, and 'True Blue' is a lavender blue color. Astilbe 'Short & Sweet Sugarberry',
Montgomery', and 'Visions in Red' are flowering now and are excellent in moist sunny or part shade areas. Two new Monarda, magenta-purple 'Grape Gumball' and and pinkish-lavender 'Lilac Lollipop', have above average resistance to mildew and have compact forms. For hosta lovers, we have 'Wolverine', 'Irish Diamonds', and 'Grand Prize'. Two new hardy coreopsis are deep red--Sizzle and Spice 'Crazy Cayenne' and 'Curry Up' and 'Flame Coral' phlox is another 'hot' colored plant for the garden. We also have some over-stuffed pots of arachnoid hens and chicks. Its been years since we were able to get the double-flowering almond, but we have it in the garden center along with lots more plants.

SUSAN'S GARDEN---
There are so many new plants I want to try, I need to re-think some of the plantings in my garden. life really is too short for messy, sick or dying plants, and I can be quite ruthless. Limbing up several shrubs has given me sunnier areas, and allowing others to droop, provides the perfect setting for some new hosta. If a plant is diminishing in size or getting leggy, it might

need more light. Even plants that like some shade, like hydrangea, won't do well without a certain amount of sun. Its all trial and error.

The foxglove flower heads are huge! These plants are biennial, so let the seed heads ripen.

This early daylily is 'Dr. Regal' and is a very heavy bloomer.

Weigela's look great at the moment .
