Paul's notes:
Saturday 30th , I will be at the "all-new" Waverly Comm's "Greenhouse & Kitchen show". I'll be outside, on the green, to promote Greystone Gardens and answer any gardening questions you might have. The weather looks good for Saturday, so I'll see you there!.
If you meet me at the show, I'll give you a 20% coupon that's good for plants at garden center until the end of May. We have a huge selection of plants available right now.
This week I was at the Buck's County designer house and garden. WNEP's Home and Back yard will feature the whole program on what we saw.

The magnolia was lightly hit by the cold, but still looks fantastic.

GARDEN CENTER---This weeks delivery has brought lots of new plants. If you're looking for a completely different phlox, orangish-red 'Flame Coral' and rosy-red 'Red Riding Hood' are two to check out.
|
| |
Crabapples like 'Prairiefire' and 'Sugar Thyme' have begun blooming and look fantastic in any garden.

Fothergilla is blooming in the garden center and has fragrant bottlebrush flowers.

If you're dealing with shade, our selection of ferns is outstanding right now. Athryium 'Regal Red' is a new variety, but we also have Japanese painted ferns, Goldies woodfern, ostrich ferns, and more. Hosta varieties like 'First Frost', 'Minuteman', Guacamole', Whirlwind', and the peculiarly twisted 'Praying Hands' have expanded our already large collection.
Astilbe 'Short & Sweet Fireberry', and the silvery-leaved brunnera 'Looking Glass' are two other great shade plants.

April is quince time and this white variety, 'Jet Trails', looks smashing cascading down a stone wall.
|
Ornamental grasses Miscanthus 'Oktoberfest blooms earlier than gracillimus. For upright forms consider Panicum 'Northwind' and the softer 'Cloud Nine'.
|
| |
Another quince among the barberry. Our quince should be arriving next week.
|
We have a new tree peony white with a dark lavender plum splash in the center called 'Cora Louise'. This would make a great Mother's Day gift!
The wisteria 'Amethyst Falls' is covered with buds. This is one variety that you don't have to wait seven years for it to bloom!.

This sweet little dachshund is just one of the charming concrete dogs and cats we carry.

SUSAN'S GARDEN---
I tackled two overgrown junipers this weekend. One had been planted in the middle of a bed but after one of its branches rooted up, it was fast out growing the space. The other was becoming shaded out by a nearby lilac and several daylilies. Pruning can sometimes only delay the inevitable. Armed with loppers and a $6.00 hack saw from Harbor Freight, I was able to remove most of the branches, some bigger than my arm, down to the last eight inches. A few shovelfuls of compost, some fertilizer, and the beds are already filled. I didn't encounter any large roots as I dug the new holes. They all went straight down. That's why junipers are such terrific drought-tolerant plants.

'Ogon' is one of my favorite spirea and has been blooming for weeks. Check out that color!
|
Elsewhere in the garden, I continue with more mundane chores like snapping off the dead wood from the Japanese maples, trimming off the flower buds that froze on the tops of the azalea. I want to keep these nice and compact. The creeping phlox and thyme has a lot of die-back this spring. If I don't see any green, I'm cutting both back to new growth at the base.

This German iris 'Again and Again' is supposed to be one of the better re-blooming iris and it smells like grape Kool-aid!
