Paul's notes:
This Saturday, I will be at the "all-new" Waverly Comm's "Greenhouse & Kitchen show". I'll be outside, on the green, to promote Greystone Gardens and answer any gardening questions you might have. The weather looks good for Saturday, so I'll see you there!.
If you meet me at the show, I'll give you a 20% coupon that's good gor plants at garden center until the end of May.
Plant Focus : Shadblows, June berries or Service berries..lots of common names  These are wonderful native shrubs. I particularly like the 'Autumn Brilliance' variety. It's a popular shrubby tree prized primarily for its fall color and succulent summer berries.  It would look great as a shrub border in your yard or grown as a small tree. The 'Autumn Brillance' is a cultivar of the apple serviceberry. It's a cross between the 'Downy' and 'Allegheny'.  It's prized particularly for its obovate 5-inch long leaves that turn to a spectacular reddish-orange in the fall.
Before the leaves begin to appear, 5-petalled clusters of white flowers will stand out in sharp contrast to the browns and grays of your transitioning landscape. It's easy to grow, but you will have to protect it from deer until its tall enough.

Early Spring Flowers

GARDEN CENTER---Our first perennial order of the season has arrived. Hellebore 'Candy Love', and unusually colored 'Jewels Apricot Blush', and 'Jewels Cherry Blossom' are in and are going fast!

More rock garden plants have arrived,-herniaria, creeping thyme, saxifraga, rosularia, and orange flowering opuntia or hardy cactus are just a few.
(Top)Artemisia 'Powis Castle' & 'Silver Brocade' have wonderful silvery foliage. Phlox 'Paparazzi Britney' is a show stopper
!

GARDEN SHOP---Our supplier of glass potting vases and ornaments from Egypt, is retiring, so this will be our last order from them. We have the pocket style along with the vase style in the standard size, perfect for stating cuttings or just holding cut flowers, as well as the ornaments in teal, aqua, green, cobalt and clear. These are hand-blown and vary in size. All look fantastic in a sunny window where the light can show through.

Don't forget to add bulbs to your four season garden.
Tanacetum 'Isla's Gold's' new foliage is a bright chartreuse & is an excellent foliage plant.
The ornamental pear 'Jack', is a smaller columnar form. and has a froth of white flowers.

SUSAN'S GARDEN---The hard night freezes hit many of my spring bloomers, but candytuft, arabis, and aurinia have begun flowering in the rock gardens and are a welcome splash of color. Ajuga crispa, that looks like a black wrinkled brain, has finally found a home it likes in my rock garden, in a corner that gets afternoon shade. Its an odd plant but I love the textural contrast it provides.
The leaves and shrubs have finally begun sprouting and there is a soft haze of bright green everywhere you look. I was just thinking how dreary the garden was looking. Even the evergreens are putting out new growth. My roses, on the other hand, are looking less than vigorous. I think the dry summer and a snowless winter has taken its toll on many of the plants. This year, I resolve to water even established plants, throughout the summer if we don't get enough rain.
Some of the most fragrant viburnums are in flower now.

Amelanchier is covered with flowers that the bees just love.
