Rose Park's Tai Chi Happening

Take a Morning at our Lovely Park to

Stop and Smell the Roses

Interested in spending time outside?  Have you been mesmerized by watching a solitary person or large groups gracefully move in harmony. Well you too can join-in and for a couple of hours appreciate the park and the universe. We have three different instructors. We are reaching out  to others who've learned Tai Chi but may not be practicing and to  those who've been interested but have not yet taken the plunge.

RPNA is pleased to have Heart of Ida, a LB non-profit, help us with this event and who offer this form of Tai Chi at local community centers. Please join us outside in the fresh air for a 2 hour free Tai Chi experience. April 25th Saturday 10:00am-Noon.  Located at Rose Park - The Circle Park at 8th & Orizaba. Can you imagine 50 people all doing Tai Chi in the Park???

Rose Park Neighborhood Association is a local non-profit whose mission is to foster cooperation, communication and pride and so much more. The purpose of the Tai Chi event is to focus on the park and its activities. You'll be able to purchase a brick; which means for $75 you can have your name or a loved one's name forever imbedded in the walkways at the Park.

Some of our Facebook followers did enjoy the old newspaper articles that we posted.  These were found in the Los Angeles Herald 1908-1909.  We tried to post some of the funny or interesting ones but it was hard to choose because they were all pretty interesting.  Here are some in case you missed them on FB: and let us know if you want to see more.

 MyAuditor mobile app

Mayor Robert Garcia joined City Auditor Laura Doud to promote the release of E-Government Report and announcement of MyAuditor mobile app.

In addition, the City Auditor's new mobile app, MyAuditor, was announced. After downloading the free app, citizens can now directly access audit information or report suspected fraud against the City on the City Auditor's Fraud Hotline.

The complete Digital and E-Government Best Practices Report as well as a link to download the MyAuditor mobile app can be found at www.CityAuditorLauraDoud.com

Below is the press release

Long Beach, CA - Long Beach City Auditor Laura Doud today released her Office's Digital and E-Government Best Practices Report. Included in the report is an assessment of innovation and technology trends in both the public and private sectors that could help the City enhance its services, communications, and interaction with the public.

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia participated in releasing the report which is intended to provide information to assist the Technology and Innovation Commission to help the City meet the technology challenges of the future.

The report acknowledges that for many years Long Beach has embraced E-Government efforts, providing online services to the public, such as the ability to make utility, fines, and fee payments; accessing library accounts; program registrations, and a number of other conveniences. These online services, that were once regarded as ambitious for many jurisdictions are no longer considered innovative or forward-thinking, but rather as standard practice.

"We are making Long Beach one of the nation's most cutting-edge cities by linking government with the public through digital technology," said Mayor Garcia. "The City Auditor's Best Practices Report is an exemplary guide that enhances the City's two-way communications with residents, and also provides examples of innovative technology programs being used successfully in cities around the country."

The report describes the new drivers of innovation -- with the acronym SMAC:

  •        Social, media and communication platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube;
  •        Mobile, which recognizes how smartphones and tablets have transformed how digital content is accessed;
  •        Analytics, to focus on better utilizing the vast amounts of digital data that are being constantly generated;
  •        Cloud, computing systems that move data storage from personal computers to remote servers, thereby creating a more mobile workforce.

"I am very excited about issuing this report today and the opportunities available for our City to expand into the next phase of technology, said City Auditor Doud, "I believe that as the recommendations in this report are implemented, we can become an even more responsive City with increased collaboration and improved services."

In addition to releasing the Digital and E- Government Best Practices Report, City Auditor Doud also announced the development of a new mobile app that provides quick access to the City Auditor's Office from both Apple and Android smartphones and tablets. The mobile app, which is named "MyAuditor," is the first of its kind among California government audit offices. It provides the public with the ability to quickly and confidentially report suspected fraud against the City, access audit information, make suggestions to the City Auditor, and provide feedback on matters within the City. "MyAuditor" is now available via a free download.

Moms For A Safe & Beautiful 10th Street

 RPNA requested information from Public Works on scheduled projects in our area. One response was regarding 10th Street:

Public Works for City of Long Beach-street Improvement (resurfacing) project: 10th Street From Cherry Avenue to Temple is going out to bid for construction in May of 2015 and construction will start in October of 2015. The scope of work for construction limits are: constructing portland cement curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, replacing and overlaying asphalt concrete pavement, and furnishing and installing pavement markers, markings, and traffic striping.

Rose Park Neighborhood Association would like to know your comments and suggestions for more improvements on 10th Street . Do you think we need more lights? Safer, better lit bus stops? More trees? Traffic calming strategies?

RPNA is distributing flyers near 10th Street in an effort to build a list of residents who are interested in a SAFER & More Beautiful 10th Street. Please consider supporting this effort by emailing info@rpna.org and saying you also want 10th Street to be a focus of improvement by the city -or -volunteer to distribute flyers.
