George Rivera of Rose Park with new Police Chief Robert Luna & Family

The Rivera family is proud of their local clientele and especially proud that our new police chief chose Rivera's Mexican Restaurant for his family's celebration party after accepting his new position with LBPD.

Rivera's is located at E. 7th & Gladys and does catering for all events (even backyard BBQs).

The Rivera family opened their restaurant 15 years ago at this location.  They have expanded to include a banquet room, hosting many neighborhood events and most recently sponsored the RPNA event Banner on E. 7th.

Contact Rivera's or get more info at www.riverasonline.com

LB Historic District Survey Training Sessions

Hello Historic District Representatives, liaisons and interested parties,

City staff and on-call historic preservation consultants will be conducting a series of on-site volunteer training sessions to prepare resident volunteers to assist with the upcoming photographic survey work for the City of Long Beach Historic District Design Guidelines.

Sessions will last approximately one hour, and everyone is welcome!

    A few things to note:

    • You are not required to be a resident of a historic district! All help is welcome and needed.
    • Similarly, you are not restricted to volunteering in your district.
    • The Brenner Place, Elliot Lane, Linden Avenue, Lowena Drive, Minerva Place, Wilton Street and Wrigley Area districts have already been surveyed by consultants. If you live in one of these districts and would like to be involved, please feel free to help with the remaining districts!
    • If you cannot make it to one of the training sessions in your area, please feel free to attend another session. All material will be covered at each session.
    • You can attend just one session, or as many as you like. Ideally, the information can be passed along to others as well.

Volunteers will be paired in groups of two to conduct surveys. Teams can pick or will be assigned manageable areas to photograph. Once the photos have been taken, we will ask volunteers to download them to a USB drive that will be provided by the City. Then, the USB drive should be turned into a designated district liaison who will return them to the City. (If you are interested in acting as a district liaison, please contact me at amanda@gpaconsulting-us.com, or Steve Gerhardt, whose contact information is listed below).

    Volunteers should bring:

    • A digital camera with an SD card (we recommend at least 16GB in size),
    • A hat and/or sunscreen
    • Comfortable clothes and shoes
    • Water
    • Clipboard/writing surface
    • Pens/pencils and highlighters

Consultants and the City will provide training materials, survey packets (maps, photo key logs), and USB drives.

Please forward this information to anyone and everyone you feel might be interested in helping so we can get the word out! Specific information on sessions in your area, if applicable, will be forwarded shortly.

We hope to see you there! The best way to enjoy these districts is on foot!
