Are You Spending More Time With Your Mobile Device?

It May Not Be Good For Your Neck.

There is a pretty good chance that as you are reading this that you are either leaning over a keyboard, a table or slumped forward in chair holding a mobile device. Your head is tilted forward and your shoulders are probably rounded forward too! This constant rounded shoulder, head forward posturing is causing many people to start having regular neck pain and experts fear that this could just be the tip of the iceberg. A recent study shows that being in this head flexed position can place up to 60 lbs of pressure on your neck...ouch! At Blue Hills Sports & Spine we regularly see people with neck pain that has been caused by chronically bad posture...so to help you avoid developing chronic neck pain, we have put together a simple program for you try. Click here for the program. Should you already be having problems, contact one of our offices for some expert treatment.

Tis the Season...

...For Shoveling!
Many of us have already had the first snow of the year and have had to break out the shovels. Not a long break between raking and shoveling this year! Every year we see patients that have sustained neck, shoulder and back muscle strains from shoveling and many of these could have been prevented with a proper warm up and some preventive stretching. We have put together a simple stretching program for your to run through before and after shoveling (click here). Hopefully this keeps you healthy this winter season.
