NAMC Advocacy Notes

Notes from Demographic Trends Roundtable

NAMC members and colleagues came together for a discussion, hosted by NAMC's Diversity & Social Equity and Advocacy Committees, of key demographic trends impacting nonprofits. Dr. Ignacio Navarro, Associate Professor at the College of Health Sciences and Human Services, CSU Monterey Bay presented information about "Monterey County, Present and Future" and demographic's impact on health, education and income self-sufficiency. Jesse Herrera followed with "The Times They Are A Changing", on implications for nonprofits and board governance.

This presentation was the first in a series where key trends identified by the Nonprofit Impact Study will be discussed. In coming months, watch for roundtables on environmental and technological trends affecting nonprofits.

ALERT from CalNonprofits

Nonprofit Overhead Project

Why does nonprofit overhead matter now?

A window for changing the paradigm on nonprofit overhead and indirect costs has opened, thanks to the new OMB guidance on improving government contracting with nonprofits -- particularly regarding support for funding indirect costs -- as well as increased philanthropic

attention to the funding of nonprofit overhead. This window presents a tremendous opportunity to the financial sustainability of nonprofits and service ecosystems, and to create government foundation-nonprofit partnerships working together on making the nonprofit capital market more

efficient. Read more ...

CalNonprofits invites Nonprofit CFOs and all those concerned with government-nonprofit contracts to hear directly from Gilbert Tran of the federal Office of Management and Budget, one of the co-writers of the new OMB Uniform Guidance. Mr. Tran will be speaking in San Francisco on Thursday, June 4th, 8:00AM-10:30AM at Moss Adams LLP, 101 Second Street, Suite 800, San Francisco, CA 94105

Attract and Retain the Best and the Brightest  in 2015

Order Your Copy of Fair Pay for Northern California Nonprofits: 2015 Compensation and Benefits Survey Report

Publication Date: April 17, 2015

With 547 participating nonprofits, reporting on over 27,000 jobs, the 2015 survey, produced by Oakland-based Nonprofit Compensation Associates (NCA), is the largest and most robust in its 37-year history!

67% of the 2015 survey's participants see hiring challenges in the year ahead, as economic conditions continue to improve. They foresee increased competition from their colleagues and businesses to attract and retain the "best and brightest" employees. More than you have in recent years, your organization will need the wealth of information produced by the 2015 survey to compete effectively on this new playing field, including valuable information about compensation, base pay, employee benefits, salary increases, personnel policies, as well as data that larger nonprofits can use to justify to the IRS the compensation they pay their executive employees.

To find out how your agency can acquire this must-have resource (published April 17), click on www.nonprofitcomp.com, or contact NCA atsurvey@nonprofitcomp.com or (510) 645-1005.
