Spotlight on Advocacy

Assm. Mark Stone discusses legislation impacting nonprofits at the April, 2014 Legislative Update.

NAMC's Advocacy Committee Has Been Busy!

For the past year the committee has overseen outreach and education activities for Covered California healthcare. They produced our annual Legislative Update featuring Assembly Member Mark Stone. Committee members Susan Breen and Lee Hulquist recently made a presentation to the Monterey County Mayors' Association to keep our elected officials apprised of the value of nonprofits in their cities. They are continuing their work with CalNonprofits on the Vote Your Mission campaign, encouraging all of our members' boards, staff and volunteers to make their voices heard. Currently the committee is partnering with Small Business Majority to present a workshop, July 9, on health care coverage options for small nonprofit employers. Then they'll be preparing for a Community Organizing training with COPA on Oct. 16.

There's lots more to do! If you are interested in joining this dynamic committee, contact Chair Elsa Quezada, or NAMC Project Coordinator Sue Parris.
