MCED Connect: David Perloff - An Investor's Eye On Entrepreneurship

March 2016                                                                                Issue # 63
5 Minutes with David Perloff
Dave Perloff is a superstar investor and entrepreneur who divides his time between homes in Silicon Valley and Maine. With a Ph.D. in physics from Brown University, he is an expert in the start-up and business development phase of companies providing metrology solutions for use in high volume semiconductor manufacturing. In 2003 Dr. Perloff founded ReVera, Inc, a Santa Clara, CA based company, on which he served on the board until it was acquired in April 2015.
The Perloff Family Foundation actively supports STEM in Maine's K-12 schools by providing educational grants and project management expertise to teachers and students. Working in conjunction with the Maine Community Foundation and the Maine Space Grant Consortium, their STEM4ME grant program takes a "venture philanthropy" approach to funding cutting edge projects, making up to $5,000 available over a two-year period.

We reached out to Dr. Perloff to get his take on the intersection between entrepreneurs and investors and what Maine has to learn from Silicon Valley and vice versa.

What Investors Wish
Founders Knew or Understood
by Bob Gould

The relationship between the founder of a business and investors who back the founder in the early stages is complicated and can easily veer off course.  While at first glance, one might expect that unforeseen setbacks for the business would be the most likely source of friction, that is not always the case....
